Where our single ladies (and gents) at?
The day will come unexpectedly. It will take you by surprise and you won’t expect it at all. You’ll be eating some great pork and chicken adobo and rice when you hear your relative ask you why you’re still single. You’ll suddenly feel defensive and miss the times they’d urge you to not date yet because you were too young to be tied down. You’ll furrow your brows and think of a reason why being single is great for you—and on the off chance your mind goes blank, let these words answer for you.

You answer to no one (kind of)
You can let yourself go when you want to. You can order that second drink, you can book that flight to Palawan and you can get on a bus that will take you to a province you have never stepped foot on. Do what you want within reason (without being responsible)—without having to ask for permission.
You can eat/watch/see what you want when you want to
Because you don’t have to consider someone else’s preferences, you can watch that Pinoy romcom starring James Reid and Nadine Lustre, you can have Thai food for lunch and dinner and you can wear whatever makes you feel good. Do you at your own time without second thoughts.
You become more independent
The world is different when you have to fend for yourself—it can be cruel but it can also be very rewarding. Sure, you’ll always have friends and family to lean back on, but being single will force you to grow up in a way you never could when you share every little burden with someone else.
You can meet new people without hesitation
There’s a party going on with tons of new people to meet? RSVP yes and make the rounds without having to drag someone along behind you. Want to climb Mt. Pulag and share the camping site with batchmates you didn’t have the time to get to know? Go for it. No one will question your motives and you can go completely guilt-free.
You’re less crazy
Let’s be honest here. No matter how relaxed you are with your SO, there’s still a tendency to go a little crazy. Do yourself a favor and remind yourself to enjoy the lack of jealousy and paranoia in your life.

You get to save
No gifts to buy, no dinners-for- two to shoulder and no second ticket to pay for. Mababaw na kung mababaw, but you know it’s true.
You’ll figure out what you actually want
When you’re single, you have no one else’s judgement to cloud your thoughts. You can internalize every cross road and actually settle on a decision that you’ve reached completely on your own—and no one to blame further down the road.
You get time alone
Everyone needs a breather once in a while. And when you’re single, there’s no need to explain why you’re looking for that time alone. No one that will question why you don’t want to have dinner or go home straight after work (no one will doubt that you actually will go home straight from work).
You can be selfish
Been offered that promotion you always wanted but will consume more of your time? Asked to attend a weeks-long training session that’s out of the country? You can say yes without an ounce of reluctance.
There’s an entire world out there to support you
So being single means being alone, right? Well, the truth is there are entire worlds (aka groups) out there that will support you when you’re lonely, laugh with you when you’re feeling grateful and remind you why being single is a gift you should take advantage of.
