Let's talk about spends: the most ridiculous, impulsive, out-of-budget ones in your recent history
We're all confident in our self-control until we reach that one weak point, crack and ultimate give into the ever-imminent urge to swipe our credit cards. Whether your poison of choice is a spa day, a luxury bag, a trip out of townāānone of us are exempt from that inner itch to take a much-needed break and indulge. In fact, this month, we're celebrating this very idea on Wonder. It's Treat Yo Self month, so it only seems apt that we unpack some of the Wonder community's spendscapades, right?
Up ahead, we've hand-picked seven splurge stories from real people. What did they buy? What made them go for it? Most importantly, was the purchase deserving of the price tag? We learn that these splurgesāāsometimes impulsive, sometimes necessaryāācan come with as much regret as they do an instant wave of happiness, but that's enough from us. Read up on these stories of people's most recent, most ridiculous or biggest splurges and whether or not they were worth it.
A skincare spree
Purchased by: KZ
How much did it cost? Around P5,000.
What was it that convinced you you needed to make the splurge? At first I was only supposed to repurchase the products that I had finished already, but I canāt say no to slashed prices. My philosophy is that if I know Iām gonna buy it anyway, might as well get it while itās discounted.
In hindsight, would you say it was worth it? Canāt say it was completely worth it because some of the products, I bought without reading reviews. But hey, at least I know which ones not to buy next time!
Foreign concert tickets
Purchased by: Lala
How much did it cost? The ticket itself cost short of P12,000, but I had to buy it from a reseller so letās just say it amounted to a lot more than that. Then there were the flight tickets and accommodations I had to pay for…
What was it that convinced you you needed to make the splurge? I almost decided against it, but knowing that my favorite band wasnāt going to include the Philippines in their tourāāwhich means Iād have to wait around a year for them to come back to Southeast Asiaāāultimately made me say fuck it and swipe [my card]. This happens more frequently than Iām comfortable with admitting.
In hindsight, would you say it was worth it? Definitely. If I could do it again, I would (and honestly, I probably will.)
A dozen Krispy Kreme donuts
Purchased by: Raf
How much did it cost? Between P350 to P400.
What was it that convinced you you needed to make the splurge? These things are the devil, Iām telling you. I canāt resist them. You only have so much self-control left in you when you know youāve been eating well and working out, you know?
In hindsight, would you say it was worth it? I definitely have my regrets.

A pair of printed bike shorts
BERSHKA Printed cycling shorts, P995
Purchased by: Russ
How much did it cost? P995. They technically arenāt that expensive, but as a college student it was outside my non-existent budget for clothes shopping.
What was it that convinced you you needed to make the splurge? Do you see that print???
In hindsight, would you say it was worth it? Yes. I had to give up a few daysā worth of lunch to make up for them and I canāt exactly wear them to school, but wearing them once was enough to convince me.
Official membership to my K-Pop fandom
Purchased by: Jan M.
How much did it cost? P2,300 to P2,400.
What was it that convinced you you needed to make the splurge? In K-Pop, paying yearly to become an āofficialā member of your groupās fandom is a must. Having it gives you ticket pre-sales, allows you to watch them pre-record at music shows, gets you a membership kit. So it was pretty much a need, tbh.
In hindsight, would you say it was worth it? I guess Iāll find out when concert announcements come out.
A new phone (and a matching plan)
Purchased by: G.
How much did it cost? I paid P12,000 initially. Iām also locked in to pay P3,000 every month.
What was it that convinced you you needed to make the splurge? Well, my phone was in pretty bad shape. Iāve been getting hand-me-down phones from my parents and older siblings since I was a kid. I figured it was about time I shell out for a phone I really wanted.
In hindsight, would you say it was worth it? Yeah, for sure! Sometimes I regret not sticking it out with my old phone when I remember I have to pay three grand monthly for the next two years, but it felt like a necessary buy.
Sportswear (no shoes!)
Purchased by: Rousselle Pantua
How much did it cost? P30,000 in the past monthāāand itās not like I didnāt already spend an average of P3,000 monthly prior to that š
What was it that convinced you you needed to make the splurge? Performance and motivation to improve my workouts
In hindsight, would you say it was worth it? No regretsāājust amazing workouts.
