DIY lunch and snack recipes perfect for bring-your-own-baon days

When was the last time you packed a lunch? While we’re at it, when was the last time you genuinely enjoyed a home-prepared lunch outside of…well…home? There is no shame in (worst case scenario) being unable to recall these moments. We’ve been there. We’ve all been guilty at one point or another of indulging a little too much in dining out or grabbing food to go.

As you probably already know, there’s a downside to this lifestyle. Every “where to for lunch?” asked by officemates, who likely also take a freestyle approach to meals, is a potential “treat yo self” moment. String these small, seemingly harmless luxuries together and obviously, something’s gotta give. Overeating and overspending are just the tip of the iceberg…and to think we’re only talking about lunch.

The secret to saving yourself time, money and effort (ever heard of decision fatigue? A sneaky culprit, that one) and keeping yourself from piling on extra pounds is actually simple. It’s a DIY lunch. That’s right: nothing beats the trusty, old school BYOB (we of course mean baon, not booze).

Still, for something so rewarding, a home-cooked lunch brought to the office doesn’t exactly get people jumping for joy. We reckon the reason a DIY lunch doesn’t appeal as much as restaurant food is because meal prep can get tedious, unexciting and limiting. We’ve got an approach, however, to bust those notions.

Check out these easy make-ahead DIY lunches and our intro to the art of the meal prep. You won’t need to channel your inner Julia Child for this one.
