5 More Ways to Enjoy Your Iced Coffee at Home

Because these days, iced coffee spells survival

Few are the brave who can survive a hectic day without a cup of coffee. Imagine getting up and starting the day without making a beeline to the coffee machine. Just think, having no monthly coffee budget and actually saving that money instead. The liberation! The utter self-control!

Unfortunately, I cannot relate. I am very sadly, very badly coffee-dependentā€”to the point that even in some of my dreams, I lug a cup of coffee around. Caffeine flows within the canals of my brain just as blood runs through my veins. Most times, I think itā€™s a curse. But then I wake up and smell a new roast and my vice is forgiven for another day.

If you, too, live for the exhilarating feeling of caffeine entering your system and lose sleep over all the fun ways you could drink your cup of joe, youā€™ve stumbled upon the right article. Last year, we gave you three non-dalgona recipes. And weā€™re keeping up the streak. Ahead, discover five more ways you could spice up your daily iced coffee.

Matcha Espresso Latte

Consider this one of mankindā€™s best creations. A combination of green tea and coffee, the matcha espresso latte lends a smoother, earthier taste to the usual morning cup. Pour slowly and youā€™ll get to create a satisfying tri-layer drink!

Take some inspo from nabong cafeā€™s Matcha Cold Brew recipe:

What youā€™ll need:

  • Condensed milk
  • Matcha powder
  • Hot water
  • Milk
  • Espresso or cold brew
  • Ice

What to do:

Pour a small amount of condensed milk to the bottom of your glass. In a separate cup, mix together matcha powder and hot water until the powder is dissolved. Add the matcha mix to your glass and stir. Add ice cubes and fill up the glass with milk, leaving just enough space for your espresso. Slowly pour in 1 to 2 ounces of espresso or cold brew. Serve.

Cube Latte

If youā€™re going to add ice cubes to your coffee, why not combine the two? Coffee ice cubes are a tried-and-tested solution to watered-down drinks. When the ice melts, the taste of coffee just gets stronger. Overloading on caffeine has never sounded better.

What youā€™ll need:

  • Ice tray
  • Black instant coffee or espresso
  • Milk

What to do:

If youā€™re using black instant coffee, mix the coffee grounds with water as usual. Pour the coffee mix (or espresso) into an ice tray. Freeze overnight. The next day, add your coffee ice cubes to a glass. Fill the glass with milk. Stir and serve.

Coconut Water Cold Brew

Give your usual drink a tropical twist. Perfect for this warm summer weather, this drink brings together an unlikely pairing: coconut water and coffee.

What youā€™ll need:

  • Ice
  • Coconut water
  • Cold brew or espresso
  • Slice of orange or lemon (optional)

What to do:

Add ice cubes to a glass. If preferred, throw in a citrus slice for a touch of color and a subtle sweetness. Pour in coconut water, until the glass is Ā¾ full. Fill the rest of the glass with your cold brew or espresso. Serve.

Affogato Cold Brew

The traditional Italian affogato uses hot coffee, but honestly, in this Philippine heat? Swap hot espresso out for a summer-appropriate option: cold brew.

What youā€™ll need:

  • Cold brew concentrate
  • Water
  • Ice
  • Vanilla ice cream

What to do:

Make cold brew by mixing one part concentrate and one part water. Add your mixture to a glass filled with ice cubes. Top your drink off with a heaping scoop of vanilla ice cream. Serve.

Refreshing fruit juice? Check. A splash of coffee? Check. Handfuls of ice to manage this hot, hot heat? Check. In our version of the recipe below, we swap out water for a more fun, more fizzy option.

What youā€™ll need:

  • Fresh lemon or grapefruit juice
  • Ice
  • Tonic water
  • Espresso

What to do:

Pour your choice of fresh fruit juice into a glass. Stack up a generous amount of ice, then pour in your tonic water. Top the drink off with a few ounces of coffee, pouring slowly to get that layered effect. Serve.
