The Huawei FreeLace Pro: practical, not demanding and there to make your life easier

I’ve spent the better part of the year working from home, and I’ve figured out there are some things you cannot go without: a little ingenuity, some flexibility and a lot of technology.

We have, after all, all had to find new ways of doing things. The holidays are over and I’ve seen more than enough Zoom screenshots to confirm my little theory. I’ve attended enough digital events to understand how quickly we need to adapt. And with no clear end in sight, I’ve embraced and widened my technological horizons.

The latest edition? The Huawei FreeLace Pro. And in risk of spoiling anything, it was a pleasant surprise.

First impressions

If I’m being honest, I’ve always been a little averse to the in-ear offerings in audio listening—primarily because I can never get them to stay on. They always, quite literally, fall off  and the experience is abruptly cut off. So when I first unboxed the Huawei FreeLace Pro, I was thrilled to find out that the buds themselves come in varying sizes: small, medium and large. And while it won’t take you three guesses to know which one I went for, the important thing to note is that it worked. Whenever I used the accessory, it did what it was supposed to do and stayed on.

Then came the issue of connecting the earphones to my devices. It comes easy because you only need to switch on  the accessory, find it on your screen and voila! Done and done.

Actual use

All cards on the table: I’ve been connecting to all my online meetings with two devices, my phone and my laptop—because the mic on my laptop just won’t work. Yes, yes, I know; there are other Bluetooth devices out there, but my other option just wasn’t holding out. But I have it another shot with the Huawei FreeLace Pro and it worked. I have never appreciated the minimalist approach to online meetings as much as I do now. Sometimes a break in the routine is really what you were always waiting for.

Another feature of the accessory that I love is that you can turn off the connection by magnetically connecting the earbuds. Granted there are instances it happens unintentionally, but at least you don’t have to wait for the reconnection when you want to give your ears a quick break—and you don’t have to immediately store it away when you’re done with them, either.

Although it’s not all fun and games. My main qualm with the Huawei FreeLace Pro is that my household isn’t exactly friendly to the USB-C charging. One afternoon, I couldn’t quickly locate its specific charger. I was sure I was done for. But if your house is USB-C friendly, then great.

With the future in mind

I’ve spent enough time with the Huawei FreeLace Pro to know what our future is going to be like. So if you’re asking me whether this relationship was a holiday fling or if this is long term, I’m going to tell you that it’s long term. Right now, it’s hanging on my desk, earbuds locked together because I’m not in need of it, but knowing that tonight’s music will be best enjoyed with them.

You can get your Huawei FreeLace Pro for P4,999 right here.
