Something Fresh: Johnnie & Lime Remixd

 

If you’re looking for a fresh-tasting and fragrant drink, this recipe’s for you. In the Johnnie & Lime Remixd, the lime zests and zings up the smoky, deep notes of whisky; then again, if you’ve got a sweet tooth, don’t be afraid to add just a little syrup. Lime is a little hard to come by locally, so feel free to swap it with an orange, calamansi or dalandan. Citrus concentrate will also work!

 

Ingredients:

  • 40 ML Johnnie Walker Black Label
  • 15 ML juice of a lime wedge
  • Ice
  • Tonic water
  • Lime salt

 

Instructions:

  1. Build your highball and fill your glass with ice.
  2. Mix Johnnie Walker Black with some lime juice and tonic water.
  3. Dunk your glass into some lime salt and garnish with a lime wedge.

 

Hack it at home: Make Your Own Citrus Salt

  • Ingredients
    • 2 tablespoons rock salt
    • 1 to 2 pieces lime or dalandan (enough for 1 tablespoon of zest)
  • Instructions
    • Wash the fruit and dry it
    • Use a sharp grater or microplane, zest onto a dry plate
    • Mix in your rock salt with the zest and voila
    • You can use it right away, or if you want to store it, air dry it overnight before keeping it in an airtight container
    • To use as a garnish: Wet the rim with water or juice, then dip into salt

Something Fresh: Johnnie & Cinnamon Spice

 

If you like warm and complex flavors that tickle the taste buds, this drink’s the way to go. 

 

Ingredients:

  • 40 ML Johnnie Walker Black Label
  • 15 ML cinnamon syrup
  • Ice
  • Ginger ale
  • Dried persimmon

Instructions:

  1. Build your highball and fill your glass with ice.
  2. Mix Johnnie Walker Black with the cinnamon syrup and ginger ale
  3. Dunk your dried persimmon as garnish.

 

Hack it at home: Make Your Own Cinnamon Syrup

  • Ingredients
    • 4 cinnamon sticks 
    • 1 cup brown sugar
    • 1 cup water
  • Instructions
    • Add all ingredients to a pot
    • Stirring, melt mixture on low heat
    • Turn up to high heat and bring to a boil
    • Remove from heat and let cool for 30 minutes before straining into an airtight jar

 

Hack it at home: Make Your Own Ginger Cinnamon Syrup

  • Ingredients
    • 4 cinnamon sticks
    • 200 grams fresh ginger, chopped into small pieces
    • 2 pods of star anise
    • 1 cup brown sugar
    • 2 cup water
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Instructions
    • Add all ingredients to a pot
    • Stirring, melt syrup on low heat
    • Turn up to high heat and bring to a boil
    • Drop the heat down to a simmer and let it thicken for 5 minutes
    • Cool for 30 minutes before straining into an airtight jar
    • To make ginger ale: mix ¼ cup ginger cinnamon syrup with 1 cup of tonic water or sparkling water and stir

 

Something Spicy: Johnnie & Ginger

 

For a fresh-tasting and fragrant, drink with the subtle flavor of lemongrass, you can’t go wrong with a Johnnie & Ginger.

 

Ingredients:

  • 40 ML Johnnie Walker Black Label
  • 15 ML lemongrass cordial
  • Ice
  • Ginger ale
  • Lemongrass & dried mango

 

Instructions:

  1. Build your highball and fill your glass with ice.
  2. Mix Johnnie Walker Black with lemmongrass cordial and ginger ale.
  3. Dunk your dried mango as garnish.

 

Hack it at home: Make Your Own Lemongrass Cordial

  • Ingredients
    • 1 cup water
    • 1 cup white sugar
    • 2 stems lemongrass, pale parts only
  • Instructions
    • Cut your lemongrass into two-inch pieces
    • Lightly bruise the lemongrass using a mortar and pestle
    • Add all ingredients to the pot
    • Stirring, melt syrup on low heat
    • Turn up to high heat and bring to a boil
    • Drop the heat down to a simmer and let it thicken for five minutes
    • Cool for 30 minutes before straining into an airtight jar

Trigger childhood memories with the nostalgic flavors of coconut and pandan with the delicious Johnnie & Coco. It turns your classic flavors into an adult drink that’s mellow, sweet and downright tasty. 

 

Ingredients:

  • 40 ML Johnnie Walker Black Label
  • 20 ML coconut pandan syrup
  • Ice
  • Cream soda
  • Pandan leaf

 

Instructions:

  1. Build your highball and fill your glass with ice.
  2. Mix Johnnie Walker Black with coconut pandan syrup and cream soda.
  3. Dunk your pandan leaf as garnish.

 

Hack it at home: Make Your Own Coconut Pandan Syrup

  • Ingredients
    • 1 bunch pandan leaves 
    • 1 cup water
    • 1 cup coconut sugar
  • Instructions
    • Wash your pandan leaves one by one, making sure they’re clean before cutting them into two-inch pieces.
    • In a mixer, puree into a pulp your water and pandan leaves. Strain pandan water into a pot
    • Add coconut sugar to the pot and melt on low heat
    • Once melted, turn up to high heat, and bring to a boil
    • Drop the heat down to a simmer and let it thicken for five minutes
    • Cool for 30 minutes before straining into an airtight jar

 

Hack it at home: Make Your Own Cream Soda

  • Ingredients
    • 1 cup brown sugar
    • 1 cup water
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Instructions
    • Add sugar and water to the pot
    • Stirring, melt syrup on low heat
    • Turn up to high heat and bring to a boil
    • Drop the heat down to a simmer and let it thicken for 5 minutes
    • Stir in vanilla extract
    • Cool for 30 minutes before straining into an airtight jar
    • Add two tablespoons of brown sugar vanilla syrup into tonic water or sparkling water and stir
