First Impressions: The Samsung Galaxy S22

Eyes on the Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra

“Do I really need an upgrade?” is a question we all ask ourselves whenever tech giants like Samsung release their latest flagships. We are taken in by beautiful design, sometimes incomprehensible specs, and game-changing innovations—before we see the price tag, that is; this is the moment when the question of need usually brings us back to reality. And while I am not the kind of girl that upgrades her devices on an annual basis, I do say this: If you’re willing and need to make the upgrade, then make the best investment possible. The Samsung Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra is quite a case for themselves.

When I attended the launch, I was—along with everyone else in the room—awed at what was being presented to us. The design of S22, S22+ and S22 Ultra is something to marvel at. Sleek yet obviously powerful, minimalist but has a statement. But then they started to talk about the specs, and we were all done for.

Samsung Galaxy S22 and Galaxy 22+

With the understanding that people use smartphones to connect and share. The S22 and S22+ were designed to deliver next-level camera experiences. The entire series’ new Nightography features—include a 23% larger sensor than its predecessors, as well as Adaptive Pixel technology. Was created to allow the camera to let in more light. Moreover, it highlights all details and picks up on colors like never before. Not to mention its camera system. It has a 50MP main camera, 10MP telelens, and 12MP ultra-wide lens? A mouthful, truly, but one that definitely pays off.

The devices are powered by the first-ever 4nm processor on a Galaxy smartphone. Samsung’s most advanced AI and ML processing. Breaking it down further, the Galaxy S22 has an all-day battery and 25W fast charging. On the other hand, S22+ features a battery that can theoretically last longer than 24 hours on a single charge. It has a 45W super-fast charging. If you don’t know what that means, let me break it down: the power is unmatched, and the charging periods are quick and far between.

Let’s get to the display. Both devices have a Dynamic AMOLED 2x adaptive 120Hz display for the best gaming and viewing experience—the only difference is that the S22 base unit sports a 6.1-inch display, while the S22+ is a little bigger at 6.6 inches. And they’re both available in Phantom Black, Phantom White, Green and Pink Gold.

S22 Ultra

If you want to take your smartphone experiences a few notches higher, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is what you’re looking for—after all, it does combine the power of the Note series and the pro-grade camera and performance of Samsung’s iconic S series. Pegged as the tech giant’s “most powerful Ultra device,” the S22 Ultra marries together a built-in S Pen, an all-day battery and advanced Nightography and video capabilities.

For the very first time, the Note’s S Pen is in an S series, and it’s the fastest and most responsive accessory the company has released. We’re talking 70% lower latency here, which is great because the S Pen allows users to experience and experiment differently with apps of different functions. And since the S22 Ultra features Wi-Fi 6E, which offers up to two times faster Wi-Fi 6, you know you’re in for a smooth ride.

Let’s get on to the camera system: a 12MP Ultra-Wide camera, 108MP Wide Camera, two 10MP Telephoto cameras and a 40MP front camera, and is further built with a 2.4um pixel sensor, the S22 Ultra has camera lenses that capture more light and details, complemented by the Super Clear Glass lens that allows smoother and clearer videos without flares.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is available in Burgundy, Green, Phantom White and Phantom Black.
