Hustle, Baby: 5 Side-Jobs You Can Take Online

Here's to getting by

As much as I hate to admit it, I sometimes find myself giving into the internalized capitalism in me. I’ve tried to shake off the mindset that the world has so persistently drilled down since time immemorial (I am not a corporate cog!). But sometimes, when I realize I’m not doing any work on the weekends or catch myself actually taking a rest, a small part of my brain still self-destructs out of guilt.

Needless to say, the pandemic intensified the feeling.

Once upon a time, searching for side hustles was a mere hobby. These days, it’s a necessity. Times have gotten tougher, job scopes wider, but the numbers in our bank accounts remain unflinching. Even so, I recognize that I’m one of the lucky ones. Through it all, I’m privileged to still have a job and the occasional freelance project. But even so, the guilt remains. In this volatile era, the price tag on survival has soared higher.

And so, the hustle continues.

We previously discussed lucrative side-hustles to consider, but with cases still on the rise, we’re shifting our focus to the online space. If you’re looking for extra projects to help contribute to your savings, check out these online side-jobs.

Voice-over Artist

When Inka Magnaye rose to Tiktok prominence, we were all blown away by her tone, cadence and unadulterated ability to understand the assignment. If you have a knack for speaking, hosting or reading aloud, consider taking on a few voice-over projects here and there. Films, commercials and events are just some of the avenues for you to showcase your abilities.

Zoom Tutor

Chloe Tan, a YouTuber and college student, recently shared her secret to making $3,800 every month: online tutoring.

It’s been a year of online classes, but not every kid is as well-adjusted to the new normal as you might think. If you happened to excel in a certain subject in high school, consider offering review classes. If you are a professional in a field that can be honed via remote classes, offer a simple workshop. Start small and simple, but remember that teaching requires serious preparation.

Digital Administrator

Administrators are the unsung heroes of some of the world’s most successful companies. In charge of everything from uploading documents, organizing files, transcribing information, scheduling meetings and emailing reports, they ensure that the day-to-day operations of any firm run smooth as butter.

Since most companies have shifted to remote work, administrative tasks have followed suit. If you’re organized and have a knack for keeping colleagues on track, there are countless cyber admin openings waiting for you.

YouTuber

Everyone is trying to make it on YouTube, but don’t let the sheer volume of aspiring vloggers discourage you. The way we consume content has undoubtedly shifted, and people are eager to watch almost anything these days. Study with me vlogs! ASMR cooking! A room tour or a day-in-the-life video! Pick up your camera and get to work.

Job Referrer

The unemployment rate spiked when the pandemic began, and soared once again when we returned to ECQ. Many are still trying to find their footing, and the least we can do is help them out.

Pasajob, a proudly Pinoy platform, isn’t quite like other job search apps. The first long-chain referral-based job matching platform in the Philippines, Pasajob rewards folks who successfully refer jobs to friends. I like to think of it as a digital community pantry for jobs. It pushes a sense of community to the fore during difficult times, and isn’t that what we all need these days?
