Grab reveals 2022 food & grocery trends in the Philippines

This delivery super-app isn’t going anywhere

If there’s one thing that the pandemic has proven to be true, it’s that delivery service apps like Grab are essential for the day-to-day. Insights from the newly released Food and Grocery Delivery Trends of the super-app share that seven in 10 consumers believe that delivery is a permanent part of Filipinos’ life today given its convenience. Whether that’s ordering salu-salo for the whole family, grocery shopping or even having that occasional milk tea fix.

Filipinos are consuming and ordering more frequently—from both GrabFood and GrabMart—with average basket sizes expanding by 84%. Young families with children are the most avid users.

Instead of the usual Google search, food delivery platforms have become the new search engine. About 74% of users spend some 17 minutes browsing the app before ordering. 88% of respondents share that they get to discover new merchants because of delivery apps. On top of that, Filipinos have been consuming more healthy and plant-based alternatives with 92% of consumers eating at least one healthy meal every two to three days, and almost two out of five consumers tried plant-based alternatives in the last six months. And with more workplaces opening up, snacking is also now a group activity, with 74% of consumers sharing they order snacks for more than one person each time to satiate the craving.

2022 brought new food favorites for Filipino foodies—from fried chicken overtaking burgers as the #1 GrabFood order to more people ordering the Filipino-favorite dessert halo-halo.
