2020 Metro Manila Film Festival Is Happening

The 10 official entries are up ahead

Nothing spells Christmas season in the Philippines much like the annual Metro Manila Film Festival. A holiday tradition among many Filipino families as well as a celebration of local talent and cinema, this year’s MMFF is going to be held virtually! !!! because we’re just glad it’s happening and according to its original schedule, too. It is, after all, a reminder of happier times and what Christmas is all about: tradition.

Last November 24, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) in partnership with UPSTREAM and GMovies announced the ten, instead of the usual eight, official entries: Coming Home, Fan Girl, Isa Pang Bahaghari, Magikland, Mang Kepweng: Ang Lihim ng Bandanang Itim, Pakboys Takusa, Suarez: The Healing Priest, Tagpuan, The Boy Foretold by the Stars and The Missing.

Co-presented by Globe Telecom, the 2020 film festival will feature 10 full-length films and can be streamed online starting December 25. But what about the Parade of Stars? That’s still happening in compliance with health and safety protocols for COVID-19 and can be streamed online, too.

MMFF continues to preserve Philippine cinema as well as Filipino traditions. And in the spirit of bayanihan, proceeds from the festival will go to a number of beneficiaries in the entertainment industry.
