All The Fatalities We Want to See In The Mortal Kombat Movie

Finish him!

Warning: graphic depictions of violence ahead

The Mortal Kombat game series has been notorious for its detailed and graphic shows of violence and, out of all of the gameplay moves, Fatalities were the most brutal. If you need a refresher, fatalities are the finishing blows the winning character does as their opponent’s life bar runs out, right after the announcer screams “FINISH HIM!” These often involve body parts being ripped out and blood splattering all over the screen. The extent of the gore in early Mortal Kombat games made the video game a topic of multiple US congress sessions, eventually leading to the creation of the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB).

Sadly, the earlier Mortal Kombat (1995) and Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (1997) films didn’t bring the gruesome fatalities to life. While the first film ended up being a cult classic, fans were possibly quite disappointed that they didn’t see the game’s on-brand violence on the silver screen. But the 2021 Mortal Kombat movie will change that.

In a Tweet from way back in 2019, screenwriter Greg Russo announced that the Mortal Kombat movie will have an R rating. For the first time, fatalities will be featured in the film unlike the previous remakes. True to Russo’s promise, the red band trailer that was released earlier this year showed a lot more blood, just like in the game series.

We’re not exactly sure if we’ll be hearing “Finish him!” in every battle found in the movie but we’re excited to see our favorite characters’ signature final blows on screen. The trailer already featured Liu Kang transforming into a dragon (which is, hopefully, a part of his Dragon Bite fatality) and Kano’s Heart Rip fatality. Safe to say we’re left wanting more. As we anticipate Mortal Kombat’s release in the Philippines, we list down the fatalities we want to see in the movie.

Sonya Blade’s Scissor Split

Mortal Kombat 4, Mortal Kombat Gold and Mortal Kombat 2011

The more modern Fatalities we see from Sonya involve the help of her trusty drone, but we’re more down to see Scissor Split come to life. Here, she goes up on a handstand and takes her very weakened opponent between her legs, successfully splitting them in half.

Jax’s Arm Rip

Mortal Kombat II, Mortal Kombat 4, Mortal Kombat Gold and Mortal Kombat X

It’s highly likely that viewers would want to see one of Jax’s OG Fatalities, the Arm Rip. This finishing move has him using brute strength to rip his opponent’s arms from their bodies to deliver the closing blow. Let Jax come full circle after losing his human arms to the same fatality.

Kung Lao’s Body Slice or Hat Split

Mortal Kombat II, Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks and Mortal Kombat X

While Kung Lao matches up to Liu Kang in physical power and combat skills, his unique moves involve his razor sharp hat. Who else wouldn’t want to see him end the match in true Kung Lao fashion by slicing his opponents in half?

Scorpion’s Toasty!

Almost All Mortal Kombat Games

Aside from his iconic “Get over here!” line, we also want to see more of this fire-wielder’s fatalities. Especially one of the OGs which is Toasty! or Flame wherein he burns his opponent alive until they’re reduced to ashes.

Sub-Zero’s Spine Rip

Mortal Kombat, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Mortal Kombat Trilogy and Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero

Sub-Zero’s exposure from the trailer has us seeing him in a more brutish light, most especially when we see him freeze and rip Jax’s arms off. Since he’s the film’s main antagonist, we want to see him go all out in the most gruesome way possible by ripping his opponent’s skeleton out of their bodies to finish them off.

Mileena’s Man Eater

Mortal Kombat II, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Mortal Kombat Trilogy and Mortal Kombat X

The last few frames of Mortal Kombat (2021)’s trailer is Mileena sneering while licking a bloodied knife. Hopefully we get to see her go off and go feral to end the battle, inhaling her opponent whole and regurgitating bones or chunks of their remains.
