All You Need To Know About The First-Ever PPOP Con

Fan activities, booth exhibits and 16 P-Pop faves will rock Araneta City this weekend

With merch booths, exciting programs, highly-anticipated performances and gathering with fellow fans, nothing can compare to the experience of attending a convention. If anything, it’s one of the most exciting places to be as a fan. P-Pop stans are in for a treat this weekend as the first-ever PPOP Convention (PPOP Con) kicks off from April 9 to 10 at the City of Firsts, Araneta City.

Touted as the “Ultimate P-Pop Fan Gathering,” fans can head to the New Frontier Theatre for the convention, filled with booth exhibitions and exciting fan activities. The two-day affair caps off with a hybrid concert that fans can attend on-ground or stream online, with 16 P-pop groups set to rock the stage from 3PM to 7PM on April 10. PPOP Con also marks the return and revival of live events after the long months of the pandemic, making it another one-of-a-kind event you shouldn’t miss.

“The 2022 PPOP Con aims to connect thousands of P-pop fans and artists in the two-day hybrid festivity,” explains PPOP Con 2022 Project Head Andhie Salutin at the press conference. But beyond bringing a next-level fan experience, PPop con also has another objective to reach. As the industry has experienced significant growth in the past two years, it seems highly fitting to salute a well-loved genre with a large affair such as this. Salutin adds, “The 2022 PPOP Con is a celebration not just for the fans, but for the richness and diversity of Pinoy pop culture and music.”

The lineup of PPOP Con consists of trailblazing and rising P-pop acts with respective fanbases eager to join in on the fun. Groups SB19, 4th Impact, Alamat, Press Hit Play, 1st. One and VXON attended the on-ground press conference held in Novotel. Meanwhile, the other confirmed artists such as MNL48, BGYO, BINI, KAIA, DAYDREAM and more were present via Zoom to show their support and excitement for the weekend.

On the topic of the P-pop landscape and the possible change the affair can bring to the industry, SB19’s Pablo expresses that it’s pretty different from when they started. Now, the number of new groups joining them in breaking new ground has increased. “I think one na matutulungan talaga [ng PPOP Con], is yung pagkakaisa ng mga fanbases,” he shares. “No matter what happens, yung mga grupo dito, magkakaibigan kami. We share one heart. Talagang buhay na buhay yung pusong Pinoy sa amin. If our fans do have that as well, I think hindi talaga malabo na makikilala yung kulturang Pilipino sa buong mundo” concludes Pablo.

“(I think one of the things PPOP Con will help with is the unity of the fanbases. No matter what happens, all the groups here are all friends. We share one heart—the Pinoy heart is alive in us. If our fans do that as well, I think it’s not impossible that Filipino culture will be recognized worldwide).”

The long lineup of artists proves just how rich the industry has become, yet we’re only scratching the surface. Aside from a fun-filled weekend, PPOPCON continues to drum up hype with mall shows and appearances on the iconic Wish bus. With the mini-activities leading up to the big event, one can see that they’re pulling out all stops to make PPOPCON the place to be.

Tickets to PPOPCON are still on sale via Ticketnet and ktx.ph. Check out their official website for more information. Meanwhile, stay on the lookout for activities and updates by following PPOP Con on Facebook and Instagram.
