We’re Getting ‘Sour’ Girl Summer With Olivia Rodrigo

Feel all the feels and call out your exes this summer

Yes, you heard it right! Olivia Rodrigo’s first album, SOUR, is coming out next month. The newer-generation Disney star is well on her way to building a musical career, keeping the momentum from Driver’s License and deja vu’s success. She first teased the album on the day deja vu was released, sharing a pre-save link that had “*O*R” as placeholders to what ended up being revealed as SOUR. Eleven tracks, including her popular singles, will be making their way to our playlists and the airwaves on May 21.

The past few months showed us that the year 2021 is for Olivia Rodrigo’s taking. If we’re talking numbers, Driver’s License managed to debut at number one on Billboard’s Hot 100 and Global 200 charts. Her follow-up single, deja vu, also followed suit, debuting eighth on the Hot 100 in its first week. These achievements sealed her title as the first artist to get two debut singles in the chart’s top 10, a major feat for a starter like her.

But aside from all the numbers, Olivia managed to grip millions of fans and listeners alike with her music. She opened up a whole new world of young love and heartbreak through her songs and lyrics. Last January, we were reminiscing all the (existent or non-existent) memories associated with driving around and growing up. Meanwhile this April, we were thrown in a completely different direction with deja vu. One where we’re a lot a braver as she called out unapologetic exes who recycled old moves with their new flames.

We’re not so sure if the songs she teased on Instagram such as Apocalyptic Crush, Pay Grade and Gross were renamed and put in the lineup. Will these tracks be part of the record at all? Only time will tell. But with or without surprises, Olivia Rodrigo’s SOUR album might just bring us the heartbreak anthem of the summer or the number one revenge soundtrack for mischievous exes. No one can predict where she’s going from here, but we’re so hyped for what else she has up her sleeve. From the looks of it, we’ll be bathing in more feelings once the record drops.
