Our Favorite Love Teams Of All Time

Our Favorite Love Teams Of All Time

Alexa, play When There Was Me and You from High School Musical

The blackhole of television and film has the ability to aid us to shamelessly feel our feelings, more so in prolonged lockdown—with the end seemingly out of reach. Romance may be a far fetched idea for many of us, especially with social distancing still essential, so we’re settling for a smidgen of nostalgia (and we’re not complaining).

From our favorite love teams in the 90s to our perpetual K-Drama ship, we’re sharing our most beloved reel to real-life (well, some) romances.

Claudine Barretto and Rico Yan

Only 90s kids (shout out to my fellow millennials!) know the gravity of the Rico Yan-Claudine Barretto on-screen to real life relationship. Their most successful primetime television drama Mula Sa Puso ran for two years and was later adapted into a film. The untimely demise of the Filipino matinee idol-entrepreneur in 2002 left his supporters in shock, with an estimated 10,000 visitors who attended his funeral rites.

Bea Alonzo and John Lloyd Cruz

Think of the word hugot (to draw out), and you’ll probably think of One More Chance. Let’s face it, John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo as Popoy and Basha have set the high standard for what a successful love team should be (and should be a staple in all lists of favorite love teams). For the loyal fans, rejoice! The twosome’s reunion movie No Goodbyes is in the works and is slated to be released this 2021.

Maine Mendoza and Alden Richards

In 2015, time stopped for an hour as the whole country shamelessly tuned in to the daily noontime show Eat Bulaga. The “AlDub” phenomenon revolved around Yaya Dub (Maine Mendoza) and Alden Richards as the star-crossed lovers attempted to cross paths, often thwarted by outside forces, sa tamang panahon (at the right time). It brought much laughter and kilig to Filipinos all over, not to mention life lessons especially for the youth. *cue pabebe wave*

Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron

2019 may have given Gen Zs a High School Musical reboot starring Olivia Rodrigo (Miss drivers license) and Joshua Bassett. However, the first HSM generation knows that no duo could replace the OG Gabriella Montez and Troy Bolton, Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron. It was the era of oversharing on LiveJournal, unflattering boot-cut jeans and the world's favorite love team, Zanessa. The two may have split up in 2010 but, for a moment in time, the Disney stars made us believe in true love. Alexa, play When There Was Me and You.

Son Ye-jin and Hyun Bin

We’re positive that 2020 was the year of Crash Landing on You. The Netflix original remained number one on the streaming platform’s top 10 most viewed content for months, converting even the most hesitant viewer. And real-life happy endings do happen with Son Ye-jin  and Hyun Bin’s management confirming that the two have been dating for almost a year. Ye-jin coyly posted a photo on Instagram sharing, “I’m thankful for meeting a good person and I will try to work on it well.

Mandy Moore and Milo Ventimiglia

If you need a pick-me-up for Valentine’s Day, we highly recommend This Is Us. No other show has brought this writer much joy and sadness. The award-winning romantic family drama follows the lives of Rebecca (Mandy Moore) and Jack Pearson (Milo Ventimiglia) and their three children Kevin, Kate and Randall. Protect this precious family at all costs! This is for the jaded and the weary; you’ll want to believe in love again. Prepare some tissues, it’s gonna be a long, long ride.
