Komiks fans, anime fans and the rest of Filipino Twitter were in for a treat on International Women’s Day 2021 when Netflix PH announced the news that Liza and Shay will be lending their voices to the character.

Liza expressed her excitement in taking on the role of Trese’s main character in a Tweet that same morning. It’s an honor to be the voice of an iconic character such as Alexandra Trese,” she writes, before expressing that she’s a big fan of the award-winning series and how excited she is for the project.

But aside from casting powerful actresses to breathe life into Alex Trese, the director leading its adaptation is also a Filipino-American powerhouse. This show is pouring with Filipino excellence, and we can’t wait to see it all over our screens soon!

In October 2020, Netflix dropped the first look at the anime adaptation of Trese, a graphic novel authored by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo. Throughout its publishing run, Trese’s installments bagged multiple awards from the National Book Awards and Filipino Readers’ Choice Awards.

ICYMI, Trese follows the story of a detective named Alexandra Trese, who deals with crimes involving the supernatural. The graphic novel follows the detective in solving one unique case after the other, while trying to keep the equilibrium between the human and the paranormal. Even more interesting: the characters are based on Philippine mythology and folklore.
