Fire, light, water, earth or mind?

Netflix’s dunnit again. You’ll either catch us watching crime documentaries based on humanity’s dark past or getting lost in different fantasy worlds, from the 1800s Regency period to the land of fairies and magic. Hey, a bit of escapism never hurt, especially when many of us are still stuck at home.

Anyway, last weekend’s TV escape brought us Fate: The Winx Saga. Though inspired by the cartoon, Netflix’s take deviates from the original material and throws in tried-and-tested elements from Harry Potter, CAOS (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) and other similar YA fantasy titles. It follows the story of teenage fairies, led by Bloom, in their quest to learn and hone their powers, and to defeat the bad guys (in this case: the Burned Ones and, if Season 1 is any indication, Rosalind and the Queen of Solaria).
