It’s not one-size-fits-all when it comes to sports bras! Adidas offers solutions with an extensive range

It’s no secret that women experience a lot of barriers in sports, especially as a historically male-dominated field. It’s gotten better through the years as the landscape of sports has become more gender-equal. However, there’s still a lot of work to be done. As women, we’ve experienced the plight of wearing a poorly made sports bra, which hinders us from moving. Adidas is offering solutions for women of all shapes and sizes with an extensive sports bra collection that highlights choice, purpose, and inclusivity. The global sportswear brand has re-engineered its entire sports bra portfolio, catering to more bodies and workouts than ever before.

On the other hand, studies have shown that inadequate breast support leads to movement-related breast pain in nearly half of female respondents, whilst over 90% of women have been reported to be wearing the wrong size sports bra. In an exclusive interview with longtime Adidas collaborator and breast health professor, Professor Joanna Wakefield-Scurr notes, “What we were keen to achieve with this particular range was all about inclusivity, all about having lots of options for women. Size is an issue. If you’ve got limited size options, then your sports bra and function [are] gonna be compromised. Having a much wider range of fitting options and sizes [are] really important.”

Wakefield-Scurr adds, “With this range, what is great is we’ve got options for different sporting activities. It’s not just about really high sports or it’s not just a crop top. It’s about offering a range of solutions for women who are gonna be doing different activities; they’re gonna have different shapes and sizes, bodies and breasts.”

Poor breast support affects women in the long run. According to Professor Joanna, during sports activity, the breast can move up to 19 cm, and long-term damage to the breast tissue can occur. She shares, “That’s very much the message that we’re trying to get across—that it’s really important that women wear appropriate support, particularly during sporting activities…We’ve actually seen instances where the skin on the breast is stretched and stretched so much that it doesn’t return to its original position, and we start to see premature sagging. For a lot of women, that’s painful and uncomfortable…and that’s why it’s so important that we’re trying to stop that movement and we’re trying to support the breast and hold it in place.”

The right sports bra can do wonders for your active lifestyle. Wakefield-Scurr highlights, “Having this range where there [are] so many different styles, hopefully there’s a solution in there for every woman, no matter what her shape and size. Finding that right support for you will hopefully break down some of the barriers to exercise.”
