adidas crafts an iteration of its iconic shoe for its female running community
adidas Running has added a new Ultraboot shoe in its lineup, one that’s designed for women, by women and has arrived after analyzing an online anatomy database of 1.2 million foot scans to refine and re-engineer the Ultraboost just for women. The new shoe, the adidas Ultraboost 22, takes all the well-known features of the iconic running shoe and incorporates a 360-degree female fit improvement to meet the needs of female runners.
In its early development, adidas shared that the all-new Ultraboost 22 was informed by “women-specific insights to provide runners with a shoe that is specifically comfort tailored to their feet.” With the launch of the shoe on December 9, adidas also hits a key milestone in its long-term commitment to its community of female runners.
“Our all-women team of designers and product developers worked closely with the adidas running community and testers to create the new silhouette, which marks the biggest update to the Ultraboost line-up yet,” shares adidas in a press release. “A shoe which has been at the forefront of performance running since its first iteration in 2015, the Ultraboost 22 delivers supreme energy return technology, combined with a refined design for ultimate comfort.”

An online anatomy database of 1.2 million foot scans was used to create the Ultraboost 22. The female design team analyzed these scans to zero in on key differences across things like instep height, heel anatomy and the females’ gait cycle trends.

“We created the adidas Ultraboost 22 by taking a more holistic approach to the way we design our running shoes,” says Nora Wilimzig, the adidas Running Senior Product Manager. “The Ultraboost 22 is crafted with the goal of supporting our female running community by providing them with a shoe that delivers [the] ultimate expression of comfort and responsiveness.”
This means impressive energy return given a new upper and the iconic BOOST midsole that, together, deliver 4% more energy return than the Ultraboost 21 for women. adidas’ Linear Energy Push design feature, an evolution of the brand’s torsion system, works in harmony with the boost midsole and the newly designed outsole to additionally provide a more responsive ride. The Ultraboost 22 comes with the refined PRIMEKNIT+, too, which is made of yarn containing 50% Parley Ocean Plastic and provides an adaptive fit.

The adidas Ultraboost 22 is a running shoe that comes in a “magic mauve” colorway and will be available globally starting December 9 in stores and online at www.adidas.com.ph.
