Things That Might Just Motivate You To Workout

Bookmark or pin for days when you’re feeling demotivated

Anyone else losing momentum or a sense of balance over the extended general community quarantine, say aye.

At the beginning of the pandemic, many of us chose to look on the bright side as we counted down the days to our collective freedom (from the virus, from quarantine, from this hellish time). But as that slips further away into the future (202X?), so has our routine. The first to go in mine was fitness. Between work, family time and sleep, me time was hard to come by. But to survive is to take care of oneself, too, right? So, here’s a short list of things that might just motivate you to get back on the fitness train, especially when sheer willpower just won’t work:

Physical and mental boost

You’ve heard it before, but I’ll say it again, trying to preserve a sense of normalcy is important for an individual’s wellbeing. But what can you do when you fall into a slump, where you can’t get out of bed and guilting yourself into doing productive things, like exercise, just makes it worse? Take baby steps and start small; walk around the house or go up and down the stairs, do stretches or squats every time you have to get up from your work chair or the couch. Little movements like these help you get out of your own head and, to some degree, maintain physical health, especially when done regularly. The goal is to get 150 minutes of physical activity every week and whether you hit that magic number through small movements or a full workout routine, what counts is the effort to move the body.

Improvisation or the right equipment to optimize results

If, like many, your fitness routine was dependent on a class and/or equipment, it might’ve been challenging to adapt your routine at home. (Also I feel ya). But thanks to fitness coaches and influencers, we’ve found creative solutions for many of our workout concerns. Should you be on a tight budget, toss cans of food in a bag in place of free weights. You can also use a gallon jug filled with water if there’s not enough delata. But if you have extra cash to spare, you may want to consider shopping for a few things, like resistance bands or an ab wheel, to help you optimize the results of your workout.

Dress up, show up, never give up

Tired cliche, I know. But dressing the part (and looking cute for you!) helps change the way you see yourself, and depending on your fitness routine, may require the proper gear to ensure quality performance. Besides, wouldn’t it be nice to see what you’re working with, as well as the results of all that hard work once you’ve subscribed to a regular workout program? I thought so.
