Here are 2022 beauty looks that live in our heads rent-free
From skincare-makeup hybrids to skinimalism, 2022 introduced beauty trends that dominateded the runways and, eventually, our screens. With the end of the pandemic in sight, many have taken a maximalist approach when it comes to beauty—from bleached brows to graphic winged glamour.
Here are some celebrity-approved trends and moments we’re taking with us to 2023.

Glazed donut skin
Hailey Bieber elevated skinimalism with the glazed donut skin trend, which highlights dewy (borderline greasy-looking), hydrated skin. She achieves it with a tried-and-tested formula: a double cleanse and serum, followed by a moisturizer. This year, the world was introduced to her brand, Rhode, spotlighting intentional skincare essentials packed with skin-plumping peptides.
This isn’t exactly new for fans of K-beauty and the highly coveted “honey skin” or “glass skin,” but that’s why we love trends—they just keep coming back.
The return of the skinny brows
We love a good 90s reference, and in 2022 we saw a resurgence of the stylized skinny brows, first seen on supermodels like Kate Moss and Cindy Crawford. We may actually just be past the laminated, plakado brows made famous by Instagram—thanks to the ever-trusty brow soap—and embracing thin, plucked brows ala Bella Hadid.
Bleached brows
The controversial bleached brow trend is still very much upon us. As beauty standards become more gender-neutral, more Hollywood A-listers like Kendall Jenner and Lizzo are rocking the trend that used to be reserved for rebellious teens and punk rockers. Don’t want to go all out? A tinted brow gel will do the trick!
Even Kenny’s big sister, Kim, jumped on the bleach brow trend for SKIMS’ extraterrestrial-themed campaign shoot.
Bold eye glamour
Julia Fox became a household name this 2022 for good reason. The actress and muse of Josh Safdie is more than capable of making one bold statement after another—from her graphic winged glamour moment to her fabulously skimpy take on denim.
Here’s a quick tutorial on how to get the iconic “fox eye” from Julia herself.
Like Julia Fox, Jenna Ortega AKA Wednesday Addams reintroduced soft goth glam, especially during her press tour for the top-rating Netflix series. This time, we’re no longer just thinking of a pale complexion and a vampy lip. 2022’s version highlights a muted smoky eye paired with a muted lip.

“Euphoria” everything
As we await the next season of Sam Levinson’s Euphoria, we look back at some of the most iconic beauty looks from season two. There’s a reason the show won an Emmy for Outstanding Contemporary Makeup. Makeup designer Donni Davy just gets Gen Z’s obsession with maximalist, fantastical beauty.
Glitter! Rhinestones! We just can’t get enough.

TikTok made me try it
From a rebirth of Y2K trends like hair gems—all thanks to a hair-bedazzler blinger tool from Amazon—to slugging (coating your face with petroleum-based products), and even hacks to apply makeup, TikTok made us try a lot this year.
It seems like everything's just coming back to style, even things we found cringe-worthy back in the day.

Character Transformation
We love a good character transformation. This year, we saw sweet Cinderella turn to foxy Pamela Anderson for Hulu’s highly-anticipated Pam & Tommy. In the show, Lily James sports the bombshell’s iconic thin brows, slightly overdrawn lips and voluminous curls. It’s a great Halloween idea for years to come.
