Test Drive Diaries: Clé de Peau Beauté Empowering Routine

Great skincare doesn’t come cheap, so is Clé de Peau Beauté worth it?

Clé de Peau Beauté has always been synonymous with the one concealer that the biggest names in beauty and the most beautiful people in the world swear by. I promise you, I’m not exaggerating; brush up on your cosmetics history and you’ll find that Clé de Peau Beauté sits comfortably at the top of the best and most lists. What many (myself included) forget is that they also have a skincare line worth talking about.

Coming from a period of breakouts, switching products and routines, and ultimately giving my skin a break, I still did not get the results I wanted (smooth, supple and blemish-free skin). And as if on cue (I was about to change products and routines for the nth time), Clé de Peau Beauté came to my skin’s rescue.

How does it work?

I’m used to a simple cleanse-tone-moisturize routine for everyday and something a little more complex when I have the time. With Clé de Peau Beauté, I needed to get used to their Empowering Routine, which looks like this:

Awaken skin’s potential with the first step What to use: The Serum
Nurture and deeply hydrate What to use: Hydro-Softening Lotion
Boost firmness and skin resilience, and even skin tone What to use: Protective Fortifying Emulsion

Many of us are used to applying serums towards the last steps of skincare but with Clé de Peau Beauté, the serum is just the beginning.

I used the Softening Cleansing Foam first to wash away dirt and grime. Surprisingly, as I’m used to skin feeling taut after cleansing (I know, it’s bad), my face felt clean but moisturized—not greasy. Formulated with Skin-Empowering Illuminator, an ingredient exclusive to the brand, this cleansing foam also protects skin and promotes resistance against external aggressors, such as dry air and micro-dust. Next step is to Awaken with The Serum, which skin quickly absorbs. Its main function is to relieve skin concerns related to softness, smoothness and suppleness. It’s made with a potent blend of red, yellow and green kelp, all known for their light-absorbing properties, to help activate skin’s regenerative properties. Best used day and night, all you need is three pumps or in my case drops to enjoy the benefits. Similar to other Clé de Peau Beauté products, a little goes a long way.

After I smoothed The Serum all over my face and neck, I used the Hydro-Softening Lotion to Nurture skin. You can choose to apply it with regular cotton or the brand’s very own soft-as-clouds cotton. What it comes down to though is preference. I found Clé de Peau Beauté’s pads too big for my small face, so I stuck with regular-sized cotton balls. Back to the Lotion, what it does is eliminate two of the biggest skin woes: roughness and dryness, and gives you a healthy-looking glow. It also protects skin from environmental stressors thanks to super ingredient Scutellaria Baicalensis Root extract.

The final step is to Boost with the lightweight but hardworking Protective Fortifying Emulsion. It replenishes skin’s lost moisture and strengthens its resilience, as well as smoothens the skin’s surface. This makes the emulsion a good makeup base because, as they say, the smoother the surface, the better the adherence of concealer and/or foundation to skin. Lastly, it also offers another layer of protection, which covers UVA, UVB, blue light and infrared rays.

The results

I’ve been on Clé de Peau Beauté’s Empowering Routine for a little over two weeks, and even from the first use, I was blown away by the results (this is not a sponsored post, I swear). The dry patches, the roughness and the tired-looking skin—all gone. And I haven’t had a single breakout. I love that aside from my skin looking better and healthier, it feels great to touch. The products I used are lightweight and melts onto the skin, giving it that tall drink of hydration and probably protection that truly feels like a treat rather than a chore.

These days, my skin is brighter, like I’ve logged eight hours of uninterrupted sleep, feels dewy not greasy throughout the day, and is smooth and supple almost like a baby’s butt. But (and it’s the only other but that requires consideration) great skincare doesn’t come cheap, i.e., a 30ml bottle of The Serum will set you back P9,000 and can last up to 3 months. It’s definitely an investment to consider if and when you have the extra cash—with a return you can enjoy almost immediately. Now isn’t that a worthwhile investment?
