Nostalgic Beauty: 8 Products We Loved in Our Youth

From the controversial St. Ives Apricot Scrub to the cult favorite Ever Bilena Matte Lipstick, we’re remembering our faves

We’re getting nostalgic about everything these days, getting sentimental about having no bills to pay and all the time in the world to catch up on cable TV. This time around, we’re remembering beauty products from our youth, which we saved our measly allowances for.

From the controversial St. Ives Apricot Scrub to the cult favorite Urban Decay Naked Palette and Ever Bilena Matte Lipstick, we’re remembering our faves from back in the day.

POND’S Cold Cream Cleanser

Before the essential double cleanse became part of our routines—many thanks to the Korean Wave—we had the iconic Cold Cream Cleanser from POND’S, which simply did everything. If there was a product for beauty enthusiasts equivalent to Vicks VapoRub in Asian households, this is it! Not only does it easily remove waterproof makeup, it also infuses skin with vital moisture.

St. Ives Apricot Scrub

It’s the drugstore skincare product that launched a number of thought pieces, a lawsuit and teen acne. Many millennials still probably have PTSD from the controversial orange tub, which sat on their vanity for years. So much has changed since then, with gentle chemical and physical exfoliators now available in the market, but we’ll definitely never forget our first scrub.

Johnson’s Face Powder

Ah, simpler days. When a face powder was all we needed—and a tinted lip balm—and we were out the door!

L'Oréal True Match Foundation

The first foundation many of us ever fell in love with is this drugstore staple from L'Oréal. Before a wide spectrum of foundation in the market was possible, this line was considered diverse. The True Match Liquid foundation gives you your skin but better! The weightless, satin formula adjusts to your skin texture and blends seamlessly. It’s so comfortable on skin that you’ll actually forget you’re wearing foundation!

Maybelline Great Lash Mascara

Many of us experienced our first material heartbreak when Maybelline discontinued the cult favorite Great Lash Mascara, a standout product for its pink-and-green packaging. This washable mascara makes it easy to get a full-lash look, having won countless awards in the beauty industry through the years. If only they could bring it back to the Philippines.

MAC Lipstick and Ever Bilena Matte Lipstick

POV: You just finished school work, and you’re binging swatch videos on YouTube featuring classic lipsticks from MAC, the product line, which has caused many to fall into the blackhole of beauty. You’re particularly entranced with your first tube, Ruby Woo, a cool-toned red lipstick, which makes your teeth appear instantly whiter.

For a local favorite, we can’t forget Ever Bilena’s Matte Lipstick line with iconic colors like Toast of New York and Siennas. From neutral shades to bolds, there’s a color for every occasion!

Urban Decay Naked Eyeshadow Palette

It’s a cult classic for a reason! For many, Urban Decay’s signature Naked Palette would have to be their first ever beauty splurge upon discovering Sephora heaven. From the series, the Naked3 proves to be their #1 bestseller, showing neutrals are anything but boring!
