There always seems to be TikTok drama a-brewin, especially when it involves the beauty community. On January 25, Mikayla Nogueira published a #Sponsored TikTok raving about the new L'Oréal Paris Telescopic Lift Mascara, claiming it gives her “THE LASHES OF MY DREAMS.” It was actually going well until the very end of the clip, after her second application that her lashes appeared, well, fake. This has been dubbed “MascaraGate,” drawing the ire of TikTok users and even controversial creator Jeffree Star.

Celebrity makeup artist and Marilyn Monroe fanatic, Erin Parsons, weighed in on the whole debacle, revealing that in campaigns she works on for big clients like Maybelline, application of false lashes and the use of Photoshop are forbidden. “I literally have to sign affidavits that are legal in a court of law to prove that there were no false lashes added [in the advertisement],” she reveals.
