The good news? You can peep the pieces at Balmain’s first retail store in Manila
Not long ago, Balmain showcased its fall/winter 2021 collection inspired by Pierre Balmain himself and the journey behind his first haute couture presentation. Pierre traveled the world, including the US, England and Australia to share his take on French culture and fashion. This fall, Olivier Rousteing pays tribute to the house’s roots and sense of adventure while echoing our collective desire and need for freedom in “Balmain Above and Beyond.”
Filmed in front of a plane, Olivier took literal inspiration from the world of travel, referencing silhouettes used for astronaut and pilot uniforms. See: lamé and parachute fabrics, functional coats, suits, trousers, belts inspired by safety belts, and other utilitarian accessories. Below we revisit some favorite looks fit for the holiday season:

Hey TailoredWhile we love living in cozy loungewear, we like to dress up for the occasion. And nothing says dressed up more than smart pieces tailored to perfection. Think: a gorgeous boxy jacket, high-waisted pants tapered just above the ankle and chunky, chained accessories in your choice of metal. |
Going Off ColorThe past few years, we’ve seen fluorescent colors take center stage and it looks like it’s here to stay. But this time, these colors are getting a spin with unexpected pairings. So forget the rule book and color outside the lines. Throw on some lime against olive and khaki, or layer brown and navy over something lemon, and finish off the look with hyper bright orange shoes. |
For The Frill Of ItPerhaps a nod to the 70s, the lace-up detail makes a comeback this fall. Like it short or extra long, tight or loose, a stitched situation is just the right mix of feminine and rock n’ roll we need to add to our holiday wardrobe rotation. |
Something BorrowedWe’re taking inspiration from the boys with some interesting layering, cool prints and baggy bottoms. It’s the kind of look pop culture’s manic pixie dream boyfriend might just wear. And whether he decides to wear it or not, we’re here for looks that serve equal parts out-of-this-world and quirky but still functional anyway. |
Over the MoonNot everything that glitters is gold—sometimes it’s silver. Channel opulence-meets-otherworldly energy when you layer silver on silver on silver. It's definitely a look, and one that attracts a bold and brigh future! |
