It’s Knit Season, Here Are Local Creators to Support

Knitting has been a form of respite for many in quarantine; new habits were formed, others were revisited. All this was even before Tom Daley, now considered by many as “the world’s biggest crochet influencer,” showcased his knitting skills at the Tokyo Olympics and Hope Macaulay, a Northern Ireland fashion and textiles designer, and her dreamy, distinct creations became viral on Instagram. Heck, even America’s Second Daughter Ella Emhoff featured a collection of knitwear “in response to my adolescent diary and childhood photographs” for her final year’s thesis at the Parsons School of Design. 

 

Now, we’re highlighting the local knitting landscape, a community of like-minded creatives advocating for slow fashion. There’s no shortage of talent here! We’re obsessing over Reclamare’s Studio Ghibli-inspired crocheted pieces and Gantsilyo Fairy’s eccentric, Y2K-themed terno sets, to Estrea’s JW Anderson-like, chunky cardigans.
