“Kapag ako kasi naka-makeup, actually, nag-iiba talaga ‘yung confidence ko…For me, makeup is a wearable lucky charm.” —Andrea Brillantes
On the cusp of adulthood, actress and newly-minted entrepreneur Andrea Brillantes finally unveiled Lucky Beauty, a brand inspired by “self-made” billionaire Kylie Jenner—known for her sought-after Lip Kits—and her empire.
One of Andrea’s vivid memories as a child is wearing makeup at the age of three. Entering the entertainment industry very early on in her life, she had to learn how to do makeup for photoshoots, tapings and live shows. It was only natural that she would create her own beauty brand, especially since being an artista, as she realized very early on, has an expiration date.
“Naisip ko sa sarili ko na, ‘Wow, someday gusto ko din magkaro’n ng sarili kong makeup brand.’ Sa industry na ‘to, lagi nila sinasabi na kailangan ko din mag-start ng business kasi hindi forever ang pagiging artista. So, syempre gusto ko gumawa ng business na may passion talaga ako. Confident ako na mabebenta ko ‘to kasi ginagamit ko ‘to araw-araw. Familiar talaga ako sa makeup kasi buong life ko, syempre bilang artista, lagi akong surrounded [with] makeup,” she reveals during the exclusive launch of Lucky Beauty last February 22 at Manila House.
(“I thought to myself, ‘Wow, someday I want to have my own makeup brand.’ In this industry, they always say that I need to start a business because being a celebrity isn’t forever. So, of course, I wanted to create a business that I’m passionate about. I’m confident I can sell [the products] because I use them daily. I’m familiar with makeup my entire life, as a celebrity, I’m always surrounded [with] makeup.”)
And, of course, who wouldn’t think about makeup with Andrea’s one-of-a-kind, va-va-voom brows? Still, it’s not just another artista brand. She was involved in the entire process and even went through extreme measures to perfect her products. Andrea tells us about the time she had to fly her sister to Thailand during the peak of the pandemic (while under quarantine in a hotel) just so she could hand her samples of what we now know as the hydrating, do-it-all Serum Concealer.
As someone who loves astrology, Andrea believes that makeup helps her feel invincible. “Kapag ako kasi naka-makeup, actually, nag-iiba talaga ‘yung confidence ko (When I wear makeup, my confidence really changes),” Andrea reveals. “For me, makeup is a wearable lucky charm.”
From the entire collection, she reveals her top three products: the Brow Grip, which sold out instantly “bilang kilalang-kilala ako sa kilay ko (I’m well-known for my brows)” and the Pressed Highlighter since “gusto kong kumikinang ako lagi (I want to always shimmer).” Finally, she adds the Dewy Lip Stain since she can’t ever leave the house without a pop of color on her lips.
Here at Wonder, we even got a first look at her products, which she used on our November 2022 cover!
