Four Filipinas Share Their Glass Skin Holy Grails

Tips & tricks, as told by Neutrogena Ambassadors and a J&J Skin Health Scientist

This year hasn’t quite panned out the way we expected.

After a full year (and then some) of yearning for a semblance of normalcy, we’re still trying to find ways to cope with remotely existing. Staying home and keeping ourselves sane is a challenge on its own, but if there’s anything that this pandemic has taught us, it’s the importance of keeping our heads above water. A little self-care definitely helps.

Now, more than ever, consumers equate self-care and health with beauty. And according to Neutrogena, having healthy, hydrated skin is the first step to attaining just that.

With over 90 years of expertise in skin health, Neutrogena is one of the world’s leaders in skin innovation. They understand the importance of having products worthy of dermatologists’ recommendations and customers’ love.

“As the #1 Dermatologist recommended brand in the US, Neutrogena continuously innovates its products by ensuring that it is always made from scientifically proven ingredients that are effective and safe for our skin,” says Neutrogena brand manager, Patricia Rodriguez. “Neutrogena Hydro Boost is loaded with the most hydrating ingredients our skin could ever need to help Filipinas achieve healthy, smooth, firm, glowing, glass skin.”

Ahead, four Neutrogena Ambassadors—Megan Young, Jen Barangan, Anna Cay and Reese Tayag-Regua—gather to share their best skincare tips. Exactly how has Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost collection been able to help them achieve Filipina glass skin?

Megan Young

Four Filipinas Share Their Glass Skin Holy GrailsAs a self-proclaimed lazy girl, Megan likes to keep her skincare routine simple, and this is also what works best for her.

“My two skincare tips would be to wash your face every day and moisturize your skin daily, too. I make sure to do these two steps before I go to bed,” says Megan. “Being a tamad (lazy) girl when it comes to skincare is okay, as long as you have a simple routine that works for you. For me, it’s cleansing and moisturizing daily.”

J&J Skin Health Scientist, Dr. Era Anwar, stresses the importance of using gentle, non-stripping cleansers. Ideally, a cleanser should be soap-free, hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic and has no added parabens to maintain a formulation gentle enough even for sensitive skin. Thanks to its Barriercare technology, Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Cleanser lifts dirt and excess oil without disrupting the skin’s natural barrier, making it a great match for all skin types.

Jen Barangan

Four Filipinas Share Their Glass Skin Holy GrailsAs somebody with oily skin, Jen Barangan’s best skincare tip is to avoid using heavy cream moisturizers. “Knowing that we have tropical weather here in the Philippines and ever since having oily skin, I only really like to use moisturizers that are water-based or gel formula, such as the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Moisturizer,” says Jen.

But what about the controversial idea that Filipinos don’t need to moisturize?

“Majority of Filipinos have oily or combination skin, especially because of the tropical and humid Philippine weather. However, everyone, no matter their skin type, needs ample moisturization,” says Dr. Era. “In fact, one of the reasons your skin may be oily is because it does not get the moisturization or hydration it needs, so the skin creates excess oil in order to compensate for that.”

A good compromise would be to choose a lightweight but hydrating moisturizer, like the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel. Case in point: the formulation worked so well with Jen’s oily kin type that she switched her entire skincare routine to the full Neutrogena Hydro Boost range.

Anna Cay

Anna Cay shares the same sentiments with Jen, understanding the struggles of being an oily-skinned Filipina living in humid conditions. Her best skincare tip: use the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Moisturizer daily before you apply your makeup.

“This is perfect under my makeup it’s non-sticky at all and very lightweight, especially with the heat in the Philippines. You wouldn’t want to put anything too heavy or thick under a mask too,” says Anna. “Since it’s a gel formula, it’s so easy to apply and easily absorbs into the skin.”

Dr. Era explains how the product hydrates without kicking sebum production into overdrive. We all know and love Hyaluronic Acid, but this cult favorite hydrator is made even more effective with a little help from probiotics.

She explains, “The Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel formulation not only has Hyaluronic Acid as its main ingredient but also uses patented prebiotic technology which boosts our skin’s natural hyaluronic acid by 50%, teaching our skin how to self-hydrate overtime.”

Reese Tayag-Regua

Four Filipinas Share Their Glass Skin Holy GrailsContent creator Reese Tayag-Regua is another beauty gal who considers Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Moisturizer to be one of her holy grails. Reese moisturizes with the water gel daily to keep her skin supple, glowing and hydrated all throughout the day.

“I love using this moisturizer and even just applying it with my hands because it’s so easy to use. If my skin feels extra dry, my skincare tip would be to also use the Neutrogena Hydro Boost 3D Sleeping Mask at night for extra moisturization, too!” shares Reese. Since incorporating the Water Gel Moisturizer and 3D Sleeping Mask into her routine, Reese has been experimenting with the rest of Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost collection as well.
