Our Favorite 2021 Presentations So Far

In pretty exciting news: fashion week regains a pulse

 

 

It’s no secret that it was difficult to get excited about things in 2020. Noting the sometimes decadent, indulgent nature of fashion, we saw how the pandemic put the industry in a more humbled position. People consumed less. Brands scaled back. Perspectives had to change, the most glaring example of which was the first Fashion Week held amid the onslaught of COVID-19.

 

But by the looks of things, 2021 spells a different story. The current fashion mood is lighter––energized, even. The game of musical chairs by fashion houses and designers has yielded several promising partnerships (see Kim Jones at Fendi below). And if there was a creative coma, well, it’s over.

 

The 2021 presentations are a great sign of what’s to come. Here, we’re already naming favorites.

 

 

Burberry Menswear Fall 2021

This is Riccardo Tisci’s first menswear-focused presentation for Burberry, and it did not disappoint. It was a form of healthy escapism and an homage to heritage in equal parts. The 29 looks, styled by Ibrahim Kamara, gently challenged––and even subtly reinvented––tradition.

 

“Enclosed indoors, I dreamt of the outdoors and its beauty,” shares Tisci in a statement. “I became fascinated by the widespread British craft and outdoor movements of the early 20th century when people escaped to explore the unknown countryside.”

 

It was fresh yet familiar, showcasing surprising design elements like the knitted beanies taking inspiration from deer motifs or the footwear sculpted to resemble hooves. Through other details, Tisci pointed to the Boy Scouts (Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom if it ever did high fashion and subscribed to the tonal and rich palette of Burberry).

Hogan Fall 2021

Hogan has always built on the concept of casual luxury. And for Fall, it has adopted a future-forward philosophy. “Recycle, reuse, reduce…but also rethink, reshape, respect.” The idea for the new Hogan-3R collection is to live out the brand’s consciousness of environmental issues.

 

According to President of Hogan Andrea Della Valle, this move was meant to “promote innovative processes for sustainability.” With that, the brand has presented the first chapter of the Hogan-3R showcases through an environmental collage produced by mixed-media artist Quentin Jones. This digital presentation streamed during Milan Fashion Week.

 

 

Furla Illusions Fall 2021

Furla just dropped its latest collection on an interactive digital platform. The experience invites viewers to enter Furla’s dreamlike universe, where endless skies meet glistening waters and where butterflies freely flutter. Romantic and free, the mood is equally present in the collection as seen in its hero bag for the season, the Furla Portagioia. The bag features a curved ladylike silhouette with nods to vintage glamour and a metal push-stud fastening. It comes in all-black and in a combination of two finishes, matte and patent.

 

 

Other key pieces in the collection include the cross-body bags under the Furla Villa line and the mini-sized bucket bags under Furla Vertigine. Peep Furla Illusions here.

 

Tod’s Men’s Collection Fall 2021

For Fall, Tod’s introduced its new menswear collection through the fashion film, #sevenT. Seven like the days of the week and T for Tod’s and also time. Creative Director Walter Chiapponi continues the narrative of reinventing the classics. This time, the collection spotlights relaxed tailoring and warm earth tones that color cotton, tweed and wool. The story rests on Chiapponi’s take on wardrobe pillars: the trench, the shirt-jacket, the hunting jacket, riding pants, ribbed sweaters and the college sweatshirt.

 

 

Made for a new kind of gentleman, the collection also features accessories that strengthen each look. See: lace-ups, ankle boots, multi-material sneakers and desert boots featuring the T sign.
