The class of 2021 put their final fashion presentation on streaming
With face-to-face classes still on hold, SoFA Design Institute moved to make crucial changes to their highly-anticipated commencement event. Previously part of the Panasonic Manila Fashion Festival lineup, the design school shifted this year from a traditional runway show to a digital presentation. On September 29, the SoFA Graduation 2021 show, entitled “UNRAVEL+RACONTEUR,” was made available to stream on YouTube.

In the past year, SoFA held on to its vision of becoming the breeding ground for creative leaders, making strides adapting fashion—down to fashion education—during the pandemic. For the graduating class of 2021, this not only meant designing their final collections in isolation, undergoing what is supposed to be a hands-on deliberation stage online instead; this also meant taking on remote learning for both their theoretical and technical subjects.
“In 2020, the heart of our learning pedagogy, the ‘SoFA Method,’ was reimagined and transformed for the online space,” the institute shared in the official press release. The “SoFA C.R.E.A.T.E.” program, [short for] Collaborative Remote Experience through Art & Transformative Education, was born and became the new way of “navigating the intricacies of the design process,” as SoFA put it, that “promotes the well-being of the creative learner and aligns with the digitization of the design profession.” Ahead, the final product: the SoFA Graduation 2021.

The featured graduates of the BA Fashion Design & Marketing program are Neil Anthonie, Amanda Lising, Nahia Lloren, Danielle Mangana, Echo Alamar, Sofia Isabel, Nicole van Duijvenbode, and Kimi Felices. For the Two-Year Fashion Design & Marketing course, meanwhile, the participating fashion design graduates are Adam Pereyra, Gerald Farofaldane, Paula Villasper, Clarisse Bathan, Ferdie Devilleres, Anya Ramos, Angel Naval, and Maria Gan.
