Featuring Fall/Winter 2018 trends that are fun but still perfectly wearable and pieces that are shoppable right now
In true Pinoy fashion, ushering in the Christmas season happens as soon as the “ber” months begin. This means getting a head start on holiday preparations calls for…well…starting right now.
On the party dressing front, this applies, too. Festivities may not be in full swing just yet, but it’ll only be a matter of time before they do and begin to pile up. With looming Christmas parties and smaller gatherings in between, a thought-out and strategic approach to refreshing that holiday wardrobe is absolutely necessary. Invest in a key piece. Invest in a key shoe (this presents the added option of styling from the shoe upwards). Resolve to build your looks around these with classics you already own and altogether avoid the pitfall that is impulse shopping. And we all know how easy that is around the holidays.
Ahead, we revel at shoe-spiration from the Fall 2018 runways and round up the five footwear trends that dominated them. If you already have these pairs in your wardrobe, hang on to them because ‘tis the season to whip ‘em out! If not, have a look at the featured pieces for each trend that you can shop right here and now.
How Very Mary Jane
At shows like Prada and Moschino, this youthful, traditional shoe style got a chic, grownup makeover…and we are all for it. A flat Mary Jane shoe may be tricky to work with though; it can make the leg appear shorter depending on where the strap falls. Here’s a trick: look for a shoe with a diagonal strap across the instep instead of a vertical one. This style elongates the leg rather than cuts it off. Now, a Mary Jane shoe with a nice heel? Always a winner.

Let’s Lace It
Let’s face it: the lace-up shoe, whether flat or heeled, may not be for everyone. It can be quite laborious to put on and it can be a hassle when the laces come undone. There’s no denying, however, that this style is a looker. A boot or bootie with a lace up closure looks cool and has a utilitarian feel. A lace-up heeled sandal, meanwhile, looks equal parts sexy and delicate.

Just Add Socks
Who is all for the sandal-and-sock combo this season? Dries Van Noten, Prada, Alessandro Michele at Gucci and Simone Rocha, that’s who! Following the sock boot trend, actual socks have now taken the spotlight. This is the perfect opportunity to play around with textures, fabric and lengths as these small variations can do a lot to achieve drastically different looks—all with the same shoe, too.

Seeing Red
As the vibrant hue most associated with the holiday season, all shades of red are welcome, of course. A little red dress on your next Christmas party may be a little on-the-nose, so why not opt for a red shoe instead? It’s the holiday season’s new universal shoe: pair it with navy, orange, pink, gold or silver and trust that it will work. When in doubt, whip out the LBD.

The Cool and Unusual Heel
It looks like it’ll be a while before the industry’s infatuation with the weird shoe dies. From Dolce and Gabbana and Prabal Gurung to Alexander McQueen, Alexander Wang and Balmain, the statement shoe by way of a statement heel were all the rage. Be on the lookout for a pair that takes on this fun trend but is versatile enough for work and play and can take you from day to night.
