Wonder Wardrobe: April 2021 is Full of Firsts and Quarantine Summer Wishlist Items

Welcome back to Wonder Wardrobe: your recap of worthwhile fashion news, the lowdown on fresh releases and updates on what’s buzzing in retail this month

Who would have thought? Here we are in our second summer in quarantine, where our doses of dopamine now mainly come from hitting “add to cart” or playing spectator from home as exciting fashion news pour in. Regrettably, it will be a while longer before any of us can take part in the latter. But for all the FOMO happening, we do see a silver lining.

Digital fashion shows are more immersive, in no way lacking a wow factor. Yet more brands are hopping onto the e-commerce bandwagon. The wheels of collaboration are still turning. So while we sit and wait, we do still get our fill one way or another. Just take a look at April.

Some News From the Home Base: We Just Launched Our Spin-off Label!

Wonder Factory Release 001 is now available on 0917lifestyle.com.

Filed under: ‘fits for work from home and beyond. Throughout the quarantine, members of the Wonder team traded notes on their changing relationship with fashion: from wanting to streamline parts of the wardrobe without doing too much to getting out of a pambahay rut.

The conversation bore fruit; and now the spin-off brand, Wonder Factory, is live with a debut release that heads back to basics. Release 001 features just two coordinated sets: an on-duty top and shorts, an off-duty sweatshirt and shorts, and a pair of classic black trousers. Wash, rinse and repeat, ladies.

Gucci Breaks With Tradition With the Gucci “Aria” Collection

Gucci flips the script on its 100th anniversary, bringing Demna Gvasalia’s Balenciaga along for the ride.

How does one commemorate a legendary fashion house on its centennial year? For Creative Director Alessandro Michele, the answer lies in “being able to open the locks of history” yet breaking with tradition. “In this sense, Gucci becomes for me a hacking lab, made of incursions and metamorphoses,” he explained in a press release. “On this occasion, then, I want to [honor] my filial affection betraying the legacy that was handed down to me. Because the promise of a never-ending birth is only renewed through an evolving capacity.”

The product of this hacking project? A 94-piece collection that brings in fellow Kering brand Balenciaga, mimicking Demna Gvasalia’s well-known silhouettes and even producing a co-branded Gucci x Balenciaga print.

Lacoste Lets The Color In With Its Polaroid Collaboration

In the technicolor capsule collection, the Lacoste crocodile marches across block-color backgrounds and on classic polos and hoodies.

As part of the campaign, Lacoste also steps up to the challenge of producing its first-ever filmed ad created solely from Polaroid photos. Immortalized by Simon Schmitt in Marseille, dancers and skaters in the latest collection create a jigsaw in perpetual movement––one impressive frame at a time, image by single image.
