Yes My Love: Second Season

The world has a funny way of making things work sometimes. You could think of yourself as going down a particular path to a particular destination, only to realize later on just how much your environment has changed. The same is true for Yes My Love, which started with four of its members—Jeff (21), Niko (24), RZ and Brian (23)—graduating from a reality survival show, Top Class. It was with the addition of Josh (25) that the group officially debuted as Yes My Love in 2023.

“From the get-go, we wanted to always be interactive with [our fans, who we call] our 143,” says the group. “They’ve always been in our minds, even during our trainee and pre-debut days. We wanted a name that was endearing yet polarizing at the same time, and—voila!—the name Yes My Love was born. Shoutout to our former member, Eli, for the suggestion!”

Yes My Love is just one of the latest in a slew of P-pop groups who have debuted in recent years. But while some might think there’s a current surplus, Yes My Love understands that it’s just a testament to what’s coming. “[It means] more opportunities, more people that support the industry,” they say. “And ensuring our performances are top notch every time contributes to what P-pop is: world-class.”

Wonder: What’s the one unique thing about your group that helps diversify the OPM scene?

Yes My Love: The diversity in our voices. When you hear Yes My Love, you hear five distinctive voices aiming to touch your hearts with heart-stopping harmonies. This quality of our group represents diversity of what OPM has to offer sound-wise.

Wonder: What’s your favorite lyric from your songs?

RZ: Mine would be “Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah we light it up, light it.” Personally, I think I look cool while saying that.

Brian: This is a preview, but my favorite line from one of our songs is from a song that's not out yet! So keep a look out for that line goes “Ano ba to, ang cute kasi ng AEGYO mo!”

I wrote it so I'm kinda biased, but I really do love the giddy feeling K-drama scenes give me. It's an emotion that reminds me to be optimistic and that there's always a reason to smile.

Josh: Yayakapin, yayakapin ka;” this literally just gets me hooked. Right from the get go, upon hearing the demo to our song, I [fell in love and still am] up to this day.

Niko: “One in a million, running of feeling / There ain't no reason I can't, I can't have you, babe.”

This lyrics has a special place in my heart since this is [from] our debut single, and I was given the honor to be the opener of our first song

Jeff:Hali ka na sa kabilang mundo at managinip.” This line came from our track YAYAKAPIN, a reminder to myself that the world has a lot in store for me and that I should keep dreaming for greater heights and to never be afraid of taking risks.

Wonder: How would you describe the relationship you guys have with each other, and with other P-pop groups?

Yes My Love: Our relationships are rooted in respect. Mutual respect for each member, which flourished into a solid brotherhood.

With everything that we’ve gone through and will be experiencing together, we are and will always be family. As far as our relationship with [other] P-pop groups, we see them as inspirations [because] being in the same industry as them, we know how much sacrifice and work goes into what we do.

Wonder: It’s becoming clearer and clearer that your voices really set you guys apart in the industry. Individually, each of you is strong; together, it’s just something incredibly special. Is this something that was evident from the start, or is it something that developed as the group continued to work together?

Yes My Love: First of all, thank you for acknowledging that. We get so kilig as a group when we hear people acknowledging our vocals. In the beginning, we also had a lot of “baby pains,” as we like to call it. We had to go through some trial and error to figure out our niche. Not to say that we are already done with that journey though, because we believe that, as artists, we are ever growing and ever changing.

Yes My Love: Filipinos love to sing. In order to represent P-pop more in a global sense, we have to represent [that].

Wonder: Do you guys think this strength is what sets you apart? Why is it so important to champion or focus on this strength of the group?

Yes My Love: We’d like to think so. Each group has their strengths, and Yes My Love really encapsulates vocals. However, still expect dance tracks here and there! Of course, we still love to party and have fun, but we always keep in mind, especially when we’re in the studio, that  there should always be a Yes My Love “flair” to all our songs.

Wonder: Congratulations on the release of Yayakapin! Is “love” a theme that you guys envision will be consistent in your careers?

Yes My Love: In a way, yes. Love is so universal. Love can be interpreted a thousand times depending on who’s listening. Love is very relatable and that’s what we want our 143 to relate to us. To feel loved and heard through our songs.

Wonder: Alternatively, are there any other themes you guys want to explore?

Yes My Love: Yes! we’re excited for our originals that are still in our arsenal because we like to push envelopes with themes that are dear to our hearts. Themes that are insanely realistic and, sometimes as artists, we don’t get to talk about.

Wonder: What is the collective goal of Yes My Love?

Yes My Love: To uphold OPM! [And to] re-live memories through music.

In March 2023, Yes My Love officially debuted—it was a season that the group likes to call their “pilot episode.” A lot has changed since then; their confidence has grown, their presence is stronger, and their body of work is proof. Their “season 2” is coming up, and they’re more than ready for it.

Laging Naroon Ka, which has gotten exclusive airplay on Love Radio and was originally sung by Jaya, is the latest track that Yes My Love has in store for listeners. Having dropped on April 26, 2024, it still puts a premium on the vocal range of Josh, Jeff, Brian Niko and RZ, with the boys offering something mellow, nostalgic and uniquely theirs.

Don’t sit on it though, because Yes My Love is only getting started.

“[Expect] more vocals and more harmonies,” teases the group. “A lot of fun, good vibes and a whole lot of heart in all that we do.”

There’s more music coming—“lots and lots of music”—whether you’ve been a fan since the beginning or you’re a casual listener. Yes My Love, after all, understands that everything comes in seasons. And if the previews are anything to go by, this next one is going to be a game changer.
