Visualize and turn your dreams into a reality with your very own vision board
New year, new me? It’s the first month of the year and, as per tradition, that means creating a New Year’s resolution list. If you’re like me though, you might find it hard to visualize and stick to your long-term goals with just a list. If you’re experiencing the same struggle, don’t fret; create a vision board for 2024 to help!
Last year, I made some sort of vision board through my Instagram Stories, and I can personally vouch for it. A lot of my dreams came true but, admittedly, there are still some goals that I’m still trying to turn into reality, and I've let go of others.
But what makes vision boards effective anyway? Compared to the traditional and long list of seemingly unrealistic goals, vision boards help us visualize our dreams. It makes our goals feel more tangible and achievable, and inspires us to take action.
There’s a science behind it, too. In an interview with CNBC Make It, neuroscientist Tara Swart shares, “Looking at images on a vision board primes the brain to grasp opportunities that may otherwise [have] gone unnoticed. That’s because the brain has a process called ‘value-tagging’…The brain assigns a higher ‘value’ to images than written words on a ‘to-do’ list.” She adds that a lot of successful and powerful executives have vision boards in their homes or gadgets, too.
So if you’re convinced of the power that vision boards hold, here are a few tips and tricks that can help you get started!
Anything can be your canvas
You can create a vision board with literally anything. You can make a physical collage with magazine cutouts, draw your goals through digital platforms or edit a video or create a Pinterest board, just to name a few.

Be specific
As per the rule of manifesting your dreams into reality, you have to be specific with what you want to achieve and focus on this 2024. Use words, photos or videos that will show you what achieving your dream looks like and how it will feel to do so!

There’s no one right way of making a vision board. Some may prefer to keep it simple, while some want to maximize the space they have—and both are okay. Just be you and let your creativity run wild!

Put it in an area where you can see it every day
Set your vision board as your wallpaper or, if it’s a physical piece, place it on your desk or wall. The important thing is for you to easily see and access your vision board so that you’ll be inspired to wake up every day and keep reaching for your dreams despite tough times.

Take action
Vision boards may help you visualize and get you closer to your goals, but it isn’t enough. You have to take action toward your dreams, too! Start by searching for concrete ways how to reach your objectives and create an action plan. Moreover, don’t be afraid to ask for advice and help from people. Lastly but most importantly, go for the different opportunities that come your way. Taking that first step is often the scariest but trust me, it’s worth it.
