From Head-to-Toe Glow to Aquamarine Makeup, These Beauty Trends Will Rule 2024

If you’re looking for ways to elevate your routine this 2024, here are beauty trends to consider

In 2023, we celebrated homegrown beauty, highlighting big wins like skin-like base products with a multi-shade range, customizable palettes and good-for-you skincare. Sephora-beloved brands like Supergoop!, Olaplex and First Aid Beauty also entered the Philippine shores.

The year is 2024 and prepubescent tweens are swarming Sephora to cop Drunk Elephant products—which, let’s face it, they don’t need. (Employees and other buyers don’t seem too overjoyed about it.) Pantone’s Color of the Year, Peach Fuzz, is a universally flattering, understated color you can easily find in your collection. We’re embracing the act of bow-stacking as the beloved accessory adorns our clothing and hair. And everybody is all eyes on the red carpet as A-list celebrities get glammed up for awards season.

According to The Business of Fashion, shopping for beauty in 2024 “is being driven by a combination of influencer-led impulse buys and practical online research.” Consumers are even more meticulous about their purchases, aligning their beliefs and personal budgets, especially for Gen Zs, who are showing their price sensitivity as they turn to drugstore staples over premium products.

If you’re looking for ways to step up your routine this 2024, here are beauty trends to consider:

Head-to-toe glow

For the past few years, everybody and their SO explored the black hole of skincare—from figuring out the difference between hydration and moisture to familiarizing one’s self with hero ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid and Retinol. This year, the beauty industry is magnifying body care—with more consumers spending on luxury lotions, in-home spa experiences and the essential SPF. It’s time to double down on pampering your body for that extra TLC!

Aquamarine makeup

According to Pinterest, breakout trends for the year include “Blue Beauty.” Yep, blue makeup is getting its revival and is no longer reserved for Halloween costumes. (Avatar, anyone?) In 2023, mermaidcore had a moment, highlighting dewy and hydrated skin. This time, blue glam and pastel blue shadows will enter everyone’s radar. There’s no need to feel intimidated by this bold primary color; we’re incorporating this 60s staple into our modern beauty routines. Will this replace everybody’s frosted shadow era? Blue really is the warmest color.

Douyin makeup

We’re still in our baby girl eras as douyin makeup gets a revival this 2024. You’ve probably seen it on your FYP—young women with porcelain skin using shimmery shadows, pigmented pink blush and blurred lips. This popular Chinese-style makeup, similar to Korean-style makeup, is named after the Chinese version of TikTok. It also highlights a skin-first, minimalist approach to beauty.

Balletcore

Balletcore took its rightful place in 2023 and is gaining even more attention this year. It focuses on romantic and hyperfeminine makeup looks inspired by the grace and poise of ballet. We saw it early in January for the Golden Globes, with celebrities like Selena Gomez and Hunter Schafer going for refined, barely-there, soft looks finished off with a sleek bun. This time around, we’re loving Julia Fox’s take on the whole trend. And bows as nipple covers? Yes, please!

Monochromatic makeup

If you feel overwhelmed by bold-colored makeup (hello, Barbiecore!), you can rest easy tonight. Your TikTok-beloved monochromatic makeup trends (see: latte, strawberry girl and pumpkin spice makeup) are here to stay. There’s nobody like Rhode’s very own Hailey Bieber to make you want to put on a full face with her take on a monochromatic look.

Jellyfish haircut

If you’re feeling inspired to get a new, head-turning ‘do this 2024, the jellyfish haircut (also known as the jellyfish bob) is set to conquer your TikTok and Instagram feeds. Inspired by the historical Japanese “hime cut,” this edgy haircut will help you wear bilevel layers. It can work on any face shape but is best for round or diamond faces as it elongates the face.
