Instagram-beloved brand Tayo Studio makes it a point to address the lack of inclusivity in the fashion industry with XS to 4XL pieces
Let’s face it: when you have curves, especially in an Asian country like the Philippines, it’s hard to shop for clothing. I have vivid memories of going inside fitting rooms and wearing the largest size available, which still couldn’t fit me. Body dysmorphia was real, way before we even had a buzzword for it. And if you, like me, have a full chest garner unwanted attention, you feel a certain shame for wearing even the most conservative pieces.

Instagram-beloved brand Tayo Studio makes it a point to address the lack of inclusivity in the fashion industry by making available pieces that range from XS to 4XL. Created by Filipina fashion designer Yong Davalos in 2019, the social enterprise makes a mark as a sustainable and inclusive women’s wear brand. With the name alone, “Tayo” (us or we) speaks of belongingness; each piece is intentionally designed to flatter whatever body type. Yong shares, “Every woman should feel attractive in her clothes, and by making clothes that are flattering on every body shape, we are able to empower all women through fashion.”

The brand also advocates for sustainability by using a lot of deadstock fabrics for its pieces. All their printed items are limited in production, coming from warehouses that hold overruns, rejected material and overstocked fabrics.
Providing a hybrid experience for their clientele, Tayo Studio is available on Shopee, Lazada and a brick-and-mortar store at SM Mall of Asia.
