Starbucks Philippines Empowers the Youth, One Community Store at a Time

Starbucks Philippines Empowers the Youth, One Community Store at a Time

Starbucks PH’s first-ever Community Center in Tondo, Manila is a place to advocate for youth empowerment through education

Starbucks has, without a doubt, become an integral part of our lives. Our neighborhood coffee shop must have witnessed all the late nights we crammed tirelessly for our final exams. It’s become a memorable spot for date nights with our SOs and barkada, after a good meal and the occasional bar-hopping. It’s a no-fuss spot to hang out with the family on Sundays after church.

Starbucks PH’s first-ever Community Center in Tondo, Manila is a place to advocate for youth empowerment through education. As the saying goes, “It takes a village to raise a child.” Every sip is guilt-free at the Abad Santos Tondo Community Store. Every purchase will fund scholarships and after-school learning programs in partnership with nonprofit partners, Young Focus Foundation and AHA! Learning Center. After all, investing in education is a long-term commitment with immeasurable returns.

Young Focus Foundation extends scholarships to out-of-school youth through its network of partner schools and universities. Meanwhile, AHA! Learning Center is dedicated to offering free after-school learning programs to public school students, focusing on areas including academics and social-emotional skills.

The branch is adorned with a series of murals entitled Brewing Knowledge, Blossoming Communities by visual artist and sustainability and environmental conservation advocate, Anina Rubio, who happens to be a former Starbucks barista, too. Her artwork symbolizes how education serves as the catalyst for individuals to rise to new heights and transcend limitations imposed by life.
