Get the Look: Gabbi Garcia on the Cover of Wonder’s Debut Issue
Hitting a hard reset on fashion, too, Gabbi Garcia’s style team was all about what’s fresh, fun and forward at the #WonderxGabbi shoot
As we settle––for real and finally––into 2019, here’s your invitation to revel in all the “new” that comes with the New Year just a little while longer. Sure, we soon will have to come to terms with the impending prelude to the month of love (we can’t believe it’s already February next week), but we’re still looking at the many ways we can hit a hard reset on things. This time around, fashion is the focus.
When it comes to wardrobe refresh-worthy trends and revamping that aesthetic, who better to take cues from than the style maven who brought the fashions for the January cover to life? For stylist to our cover star Cath Sobrevega, hitting hard reset isn’t just a matter of the mind. Her celebrity-stylist dynamic with Gabbi Garcia is a showcase on the impactful way fashion lets that hard reset happen from the outside-in. The brands in the spotlight? The all-new crop of homegrown fashion designers you should keep your eyes peeled for in the coming months. The theme of this hard reset? Adventure.

“The best part about working with Gabbi is the trust she gives me and my team,” shares Sobrevega, letting us in on what she enjoys most about their collaboration. This, it turns out, has a lot to do with Gabbi’s sense of adventure and willingness to explore and experiment. “She’s so confident that she knows she can pull off whatever we decide to make her wear,” she adds. “Gabbi’s empowering that way.”
This was evident at the #WonderxGabbi shoot, too, and was a treat to witness firsthand. A multi-colored coat here, an elaborate pleated tube top there: Gabbi was all about embracing new and different. “I love dressing up Gabbi because she’s very fit and always game to try something new,” says Sobrevega. She recounts how she decided on styling this adventure-seeking fashion girl for the shoot shortly after: “When I dress her, I make sure I showcase her long legs or her shoulders. It’s one or the other.”
Seeing the cover shoot through the lens of Sobrevega is one thing. Learning styling tricks from her is another. Ahead, treat yourself to both. Here’s how you can get the look of Gabbi from her Wonder cover shoot:
Statement-Making Outerwear? It’s A Cinch
Chunky, oversized coats and jackets don’t have to be shapeless
A foray into alternative ways to style a statement coat, Cath says you shouldn’t limit yourself to the mere “to button up or not to button up?” styling option. Accessorize by cinching your waist and securing your coat with a wide belt, corset belt or waist belt.

Not your ordinary slip-on
On the promising new designer featured in this look, Cath says: “This is actually my first time to work with Patrick Lazol and I loved all his pieces. They’re eclectic and very chic. Gabbi super loved her look, too. I even ended up giving her the slip-on mules.”
Pulling off Delicate and Edgy All at Once
Cath says it’s possible; the two can coexist!
“My style is a balance of masculine and feminine,” shares the celebrity stylist as she reveals her ideal way to dress down this rather formal Danielle Staples top.
