Styling secrets to match that power pout

Picking up right where we left off with our last Wonder Plays Dress-Up pilot episode, we’re back with yet another tricky trend for unpacking: the red lip. Now, we know, a beauty trend in a styling series? Yes. Purely intentional. We’ve worked the timeless yet trendy red lip into the Dress-up narrative because it’s powerful (is there any trend more women’s month appropriate?), it’s show-stopping, and yet, it’s feared by so many guys and gals for those very reasons.

Why shy away from it, when you can work it instead? It’s ambitious, surely, but not impossible.

The easiest color combo on the eyes? No color at all. Pile on your whites to create stark contrast against that bold lip.

White cropped blouse and white ripped jeans with cargo pockets, FOREVER 21.

Red and brown might not be the first pair to come to mind when you think of gorgeous color combinations, but one thing’s for certain: it works. Pair warm reds with cooler browns or vice versa.

The red lip is a Parisian beauty staple isn’t it? Ride that wave and top your look off with a trusty beret and spice it up a little further with red lenses to match that pout.

Black crochet beret, AC+632, red vintage sunglasses, FIRMA.

Fighting fire with fire? We say go for it. Amp up the ante of your red lip with an equally scene-stealing statement piece—in this case, a sparkly, no-fucks-given cropped top.

LBD, jewelry, and a red lip? A foolproof combination made in fashion & beauty heaven. Cover it up with a printed blazer for a day out, or sport the look as is for a night out on the town.
