Breaking Down Our Fave Looks from H&M x Mugler

Spoiler alert: this designer collab from H&M and Mugler is absolutely to die for

In the world of fashion, when it comes to dressing the confident and liberated woman, nobody does it better than Mugler.

The late designer, Manfred Thierry Mugler, was a master at harnessing strong feminine power, dressing femme fatale icons such as Sex and the City’s Samantha Jones, Beyoncé, Grace Jones and Diana Ross in his fantastically outré creations. And in more recent years, current Mugler creative director Casey Cadwallader would put celebrities like Dua Lipa, Megan Thee Stallion and CL in fabulous looks that screamed cool sex appeal.

If you’ve always wanted to be a powerful Mugler woman but stopped short at paying full designer price, now’s your chance—retail giant H&M just released the lookbook for its much-awaited H&M x Mugler collaboration.

As the latest in a long list of H&M designer collabs, the upcoming collection is part of Cadwallader’s mission to democratize the label and make the Mugler house codes a little more accessible. A giant slay on his part, we think!

The H&M x Mugler collection will be available in select H&M stores around the world on May 11. Ahead, we single out the looks we’re definitely going to obsess over ‘til the collection drops next month.

That sheer-panel bodysuit

You know which one we’re talking about—you’ve seen it on every major celebrity, from Dua Lipa performing at the world’s biggest stages during her Future Nostalgia tour to Bella Hadid on the red carpet. Rendered in skin-tight black with sheer mesh panels to highlight your body-ody-ody, Cadwaller’s Mugler bodysuit has instantly become a new fashion classic.

The H&M version is just as spectacular: dress it down with a blazer and jeans for weekend brunch with the girls, but at night, get daring and don the full-body catsuit with your highest stilettos for a look that will definitely turn heads.

Sharp tailoring

Thierry Mugler designed for the powerful woman, and this was reflected clearly in his distinctive approach to tailoring. With sharp shoulders and nipped-in waists, his iconic power suits could transfer any plain Jane into the most glamorous femme fatale straight from a Hitchcock film.

H&M x Mugler thankfully has a few pieces imbued with the house’s signature razor-sharp tailoring. We love the oversized teal leather trench for chilly trips abroad, but you can’t beat the classic black collarless blazer with shoulders that are to die for.

Bold color

Every fashionista worth their salt knows that black has long been a Mugler signature. The H&M collab fittingly consists mostly of pieces rendered in black—however, Cadwaller also infused some electric color in the collection to keep things fresh and youthful.

These high-voltage hues would look great for a fun night out in the club. Our faves? The tiny electric-blue bodycon cocktail dress and the black-and-chartreuse long-sleeved mini!

Cutouts galore

The Mugler woman may be sexually liberated, but she won’t bare it all in one go—rather, she knows how to harness the power of suggestion and that showing hints of skin can be way more sensual when done well.

Stay hubadera the fashion-forward way in H&M x Mugler’s hot little cutout numbers. We’re obsessed with how the generous cutouts highlight the clavicle and midriff area, while another dress brings attention to the clavicle and shoulder.

While Mugler is primarily a womenswear label, the house does have a menswear division. What’s notable is how every menswear piece remains bold and assertive, but still shares the same sensual feminine energy from the women’s clothing.

Not to be outdone, H&M x Mugler also has eye-catching men’s pieces for the stylish gent who wants to keep it dapper the Mugler way. We’re obsessed with the citrine tailored pantsuit that’s oh-so-bold yet oh-so-chic, and fashion-forward gym bros may be inclined to wear the sheer skin-tight top to show off their gains.
