The Best Fashion Advice According to ITZY

For the members of ITZY, style is all about attitude!

In case you missed it, K-pop girl group ITZY was in town recently for their grand fan meet, WANNABE, with BENCH. As endorsers of the local fashion and lifestyle brand, the girls made waves online by connecting with their fans through various games and challenges while also performing some of their hit songs. They even prepared a special segment that involved giving out cake and gifts for one of the members, Ryujin, who celebrated her birthday the next day.

But before all the fan meet festivities, Wonder had the chance to chat with ITZY through an exclusive press conference hosted by BENCH. The girls came out styled in some of the brand’s classic pieces, but were—of course—reworked to match the image of the group. Their styling team did an amazing job at accessorizing and breathing new life into the basics (and even accent pieces) to create fresh ‘fits that you wouldn’t normally expect.

That’s the beauty of K-pop fashion, though: you get out-of-the-box styling when it comes to their performance looks, but off-screen, these idols tend to dress pretty casual and fuss-free. And that rings true even with a fashion-forward group such as ITZY. When asked what their style philosophies are when it comes to clothing, Yeji, the leader of the group, has a very interesting mindset.

“I’d like to dress in a way that looks like I didn’t put any effort [into] my outfit,” she tells the press, before going on to say that’s why comfortable basics are important. When you scroll through the group’s Instagram, there’s a lot of proof that Yeji’s way of dressing bleeds through the entire group. Amid the thousands of stage ‘fits, you come across their off-duty looks that are anchored on easy and oversized pieces that are the perfect mix of comfort and style. The outfits usually include roomy hoodies, triple XL tees and baggy jeans that are also at the core of their generation’s dressing. They are a Gen Z girl group at the core.

Ryujin further adds, “Comfort and quality are always important. The feel of the clothes is crucial.” She then points out that the outfits they’re wearing during the press con are from BENCH and that, despite their body-hugging silhouettes, they’re still super comfy to wear. Yuna and Chaeryong add to this by saying that comfort is always key when it comes to dressing, and it looks like the whole group agrees that this is the best fashion advice out there.

Meanwhile, Lia also pointed out to be mindful of how clothing looks on your body, saying: “Silhouette is important, too. How your body shape looks also matters.”

But whether that’s hiding your bod or flaunting your curves, it’s basically still up to you. After all, comfort and amping up your confidence are key when it comes to dressing. Just take it from ITZY and their love for experimenting with different looks on stage while never losing sight of what’s comfortable to wear as soon as the cameras are turned off.
