Even Pokémon GO is in on it, too
French luxury brand Longchamp is no stranger to offbeat but brilliant collaborations. Who could forget the capsule by Hood By Air’s Shayne Oliver? Or the playful, cartoon-covered Le Pliage® by French artist Clo’e Floirat? However unexpected, these link-ups have always stayed within the realms of fashion and art. Well, until now.
Longchamp x Pokémon is officially happening and it’s the fashion and video game crossover to end all fashion and video game crossovers. No surprise here: we never saw this collab coming. Though the more we think about it, the more it makes sense that icons such as these two would eventually find their way to one another.
The collection arrives in stores and online on October 13. It’s high time Pikachu had a fashion moment.
The Longchamp x Pokémon collab gives the Le Pliage® an electrifying makeover, coming up with four exclusive versions of the brand’s legendary handbag.
“Our Le Pliage bag has become a platform where all the different aspects of Longchamp can be expressed and can also take us to unknown places,” shared Sophie Delafontaine, the Artistic Director at Maison Longchamp. “We hadn’t explored entertainment and gaming before. It’s a very inspiring world, particularly with Pokémon and its iconic mascot, Pikachu. Our two worlds, real and virtual, blend perfectly in this collaboration.”
Longchamp x Pokémon collab is bringing the fun online, too. To celebrate the collaboration, Pokémon GO is slated to launch a special in-game event for all Pokémon Trainers timed with Longchamp’s show at Paris Fashion Week (October 2, Friday, at 8AM, Pacific Time). Players can deck themselves out with the new Longchamp x Pokémon avatar backpack. And then, until October 8, Thursday, expect to see fashionable Pokémon appearing in the wild, challenging Trainers in raids and hatching from Eggs.
