Doubly chic, we presume
Many of us grew up watching Full House (and thanks to Netflix, we and interested generations can watch it over and over again) and a 6-month old Michelle Tanner—played by both Mary-Kate and Ashley—literally grow up before our very eyes. But who knew the fraternal pair would later become bona fide and multi-awarded designers in the fashion world?
“I look at old photos of me, and I don't feel connected to them at all. I would never wish my upbringing on anyone… [We were] little monkey performers.” —Mary-Kate on fame as told to Marie Claire in 2010
Officially retiring from acting when they turned 18, Mary-Kate and Ashley focused their attention and efforts on building a fashion empire. In 2006 the twins debuted The Row, a luxury line of accessories and ready-to-wear apparel. And though the Olsens’ personal tastes are often a little more bohemian-bourgeois, their label reflects an arty yet minimalist aesthetic; elevated basics if you will. The Row has since earned the designers several CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) awards: Womenswear Designer of the Year in 2012 and 2015, and Accessories Designer of the Year in 2014 and again this year.
So in celebration of Mary-Kate and Ashley, and their beloved contributions to our childhood and the fashion world, we re-imagine a few looks from today’s favorite design houses and how they would look like if an Olsen’s collaboration were to happen:
Balenciaga
Because The Row is all about muted palettes
Raf Simons for Calvin Klein
The Olsen way: layering long and even longer pieces
The Row x Supreme
Could this actually happen? Maybe, maybe not
Louis Vuitton
What would Mary-Kate and Ashley do? Tone it down perhaps
Gucci
Somebody needs to make this happen
