Here’s the lowdown on fashion news, the latest releases and whatever else is buzzing in retail this Christmas season
If the decked-out, ceiling-high trees and on-loop holiday soundtracks in malls aren’t doing it to signal Christmastime for you, this round-up might just. Hey, we get it; Christmas may start in September on this side of the world, but we only ever go into full-tilt Christmas mode around November. Growing shopping lists become increasingly harder to ignore and the desire to give back to yourself calls out to you just a little louder than before.
In light of all this, here’s a special holiday edition of our Wonder Wardrobe series. Whether it’s a present for a loved one, a Secret Santa or something self-gifted (should you prefer to see your holiday spending where you can see it: in your closet), there’s something for everyone here:
Parallel Culture Tokyo Features Homegrown Japanese Brands
Discover modern Japanese style
Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and Japan Fashion Week Organization set up Parallel Culture Tokyo as part of their deliberate efforts to promote and grow Japanese small enterprises in Asia. The three-day pop-up trade show featured Japanese homegrown brands Name., VITAL MATERIAL and Flower Mountain for retailers in the Philippines.
Noteworthy sneakers by Flower Mountain are inspired by the integration of harmony with nature. The unique identity of Name. is highlighted by the “repetition of deconstructing and reconstructing” pieces. VITAL MATERIAL takes your mind and body to “the world of healing” with their body care to home care products.
Nike Joyride Puts The Fun Back In Running
The latest innovation from Nike is made for all kinds of runners
Just before the Nike Joyride Dual Run officially launches in stores, we got to take the pair out for a trial—and ya’ll know how much we love a good test drive. The goal was to make running fun and easy for all kinds of runners, from newbies to serious athletes. But how? Through a cushioning system made of TPE beads that delivers better impact absorption and a personalized fit. So, we chose a 3k run (for beginners) with Nike’s Running Club to see if the Joyride will live up to its claim.
Unlike the Pegasus, the Joyride is closer-to-the-ground in feel. And even when you find yourself catching your breath at 1.5km, legs still feel like they can run another mile (which we did!). That’s because this particular shoe focuses its technology in areas where runners need it most: the mid-foot and heel. The beads in particular create a cushioning sensation that conforms to the shape of the foot. It also features a special foam (SR02) that contributes to the shoe’s durability, as well as provides extra softness underfoot.
We completed a 3k run (but, you know, with a few breaks in between) and a short sprint back to the starting point with legs feeling fresh and lungs not gasping for air, thanks to NRC’s tip to breathe through the nose and not through the mouth. We were also reminded to run at our own pace. So with the right shoe and proper training, running can be fun!
The Nike Joyride Dual Run retails for P6,745 and will be available at Nike Park and partner retail stores on December 2, 2019. To know more about Joyride Dual Run, click here.

Nikko Pelaez x Vans “Along With The Gods” is a Story of Passion and Suffering
…of making our own fate and success
Last year, Nikko Pelaez won Vans Asia Custom Culture Competition. It was a first for the Philippines and an unexpected victory for Pelaez, who initially couldn’t compete because of a passport issue. But as fate would have it, the odds worked in the artist’s favor and ultimately led to Vans producing its first ever Filipino-designed collection.
Last November 15, we got reacquainted with the Pelaez for his media launch, and meet and greet with fans. At the event, he talks passion and the meaning behind “Along With The Gods:”
On passion: Something na handa mong paghirapan habang tumatagal. Kasi mali sila sa pagunawa ng passion, which is suffering or something na handa mong paghirapan. Yun ang passion para sa akin.
On the meaning behind Along With The Gods: Kung mapapansin niyo gumamit ako ng Greek or baroque sculpture kasi fan ako.
Fans and media guests also had the chance to have their Vans mech signed by the artist. We’re keeping our eyes and ears peeled as the Philippines might just get lucky again this year.

Akimbo Celebrates Its First Year Anniversary with a New Brand Joining Its Roster and Some Very Special Guests Performing for the Evening
#AkimboYear1 brought together Anima Tierra, the Naval brothers and English electronic music duo HONNE
For one night only, Bank Bar in BGC was transformed into a tropical, moody pocket of green––complete with living trees and vines transplanted right into the speakeasy––as a way to introduce the Jungle-Jap identity of Akimbo’s newest addition: KENZO. Here, Akimbo VIP’s donned the latest from the brand as local music collective Anima Tierra hailed everyone’s arrival at the venue. With beats by the Naval brothers and signature brews in between, the one-year anniversary eventually capped off with one of its other main events: Honne taking the stage to perform a stripped down version of hits like “Day 1,” “Location Unknown,” “Someone That Loves You” and more.
