Wonder Beauty Counter: September is About Magic Makeup and Fresh Iterations of Our Cult Faves
September is a time for curation: of our wardrobes, our dressers, and yes, our beauty counters, too
September signals a big month in fashion. If our September theme, the Style Edit, is anything to go by, it’s that perfect moment, that transformative single month out of twelve to reassess our sartorial choices and closet contents, to look at pieces ready for re-loving with a sharper eye and trends worth trying with a refreshed air of excitement. But hey, who’s to say that sense of editing and refashioning can’t apply to beauty, too?
In what appears to be a serendipitous turn of events orchestrated by the gods of beauty themselves, September has brought on a wave of exciting product launches and twists to classic cult favorites. And hey, if we’re editing our wardrobes anyway, why not do some fine tuning to our beauty counters as well?
Scent of wedding bliss
Vera Wang’s prominence is primarily due to her modern but elegant line of bridalwear. So it’s almost serendipitous the designer would create a scent specifically for the bride-to-be. Made with a heady blend of florals, including Bulgarian rose, calla lily and mandarin flower, the eponymous fragrance attempts to capture the bliss and beauty a woman feels on one of her most special days. And isn’t that what we all—single, engaged or otherwise—want to remember, the time when we’ve felt the most joy and the most beautiful?

Get a head start on that gift list
Is it ever too early to start planning for the holiday season? There may be a good three months before Christmastime, but the annual Beauty Addict festivities over at Rustan’s are giving us good reason to get started on that gift list. This year’s celebration took on a new form with the GLOW Beauty and Beats Festival––a one-day festival that promised music, food, drinks, games and an up-close experience with some of our favorite beauty brands.
As with every Beauty Addict season, Rustan’s promises discounts and deals for the month of September. What better way to score gifts ahead of the holiday crowds? From September 16 to 22, buyers can enjoy discounts and promos from select brands on the Rustan’s The Beauty Source roster. The next week, from September 23 to 30, bath and body brands The Luxury Bathing Company and Sisley promise impressive offers of their own. On our radar: a state-of-the-art Vidal Sassoon curling iron for Mom, a set of Deborah Lippmann nail polish for the best friend and maybe, just maybe, a 25% off Sisley Eau De Sisley N˚1 for ourselves.

Bloom baby, bloom
Nuxe’s iconic Huile Prodigieuse just got a sweet update; meet Florale. Still made with all-natural ingredients and delivers the same amazing results (hello smooth and nourished face, body and hair!), the moisturizing dry oil now comes in a light and fresh floral scent. What does it smell like? A bed of magnolias and a little like angel’s breath thanks to some grapefruit zest. Sounds like what we all need to upgrade our skincare routine!
Hair color that stays
This year’s TRESemmé Runway Ready event was themed after bold statements and color that stays. To introduce their latest color care range under the Pro-Color Series, TRESemmé sought the expertise of style authorities Pam Quiñones and Daryl Chang.
Pam’s take on Color Radiance, featuring the designs of Carl Jan Cruz, Rajo Laurel, Martin Bautista, Sassa Jimenez, Geoff Gonzalez and Jerome Llorico paired with slick hair by Lourd Ramos and Victor Ortega, was a perfect balance of power and sensual energy. Meanwhile, Daryl’s Blonde Brilliance segment, with pieces from local brand favorites Neon Island, Aranaz, Pinas Sadya, Primadonna and Deliver Deliver Daily coupled with big, messy hair by Suyen Salazar and Mark Familara, was a display of bold and delicate.
That’s exactly what TRESemmé’s new Pro-Color Series is. It offers the best of both worlds in hair care and color care. A godsend if you will, for those of us obsessed with keeping hair pretty in purple, pink or what have you.
Color Radiance is also available in all leading supermarkets, drug stores and department stores nationwide, while Blonde Brilliance can be found in leading Watsons stores nationwide and select drug stores/ department stores.
Makeup, meet magic
Bringing our Sailor Moon dreams to life with a side-serving of wellness to boot, Smashbox’s newest seven-piece collection finds footing in the healing properties of crystals. No fictional mumbo jumbo here––every piece in the line was created intentionally in collaboration with The Hoodwitch founder Bri Luna, who strongly believes that power and magic ought to be reinforced in beauty, too. Our favorites from the lot? The Niacinamide and Hyaluronic Acid-infused Crystalized Photo Finish Primerizer that locks in hydration like a dream, the opalescent water-light Crystalized Shimmer Drops and the Crystalized Always On Liquid Eyeshadow, which promises long wear, zero creasing and an intense, glimmering punch of pigment.

Hit Undo on Skin Damage
The skin remembers. It remembers when you fell asleep with 14-hour-old makeup on your face. It remembers when you threw caution to the wind and binge ate all the deep fried comfort food you’d been trying to avoid. It remembers those sleepless nights poring over reports at work (or alternatively, the incessant lie of “one episode more” that would resound from midnight to early morning). Every sin committed against your complexion and your religious skincare routine is embedded into the deepest layers of your skin, just waiting to manifest as we each go along the aging process.
It’s daunting, certainly, knowing that the worst is yet to come––but it doesn’t have to go downhill just yet.
Showing us that the damage can still be undone, Snailwhite releases its newest moisturizing facial cream, Snailwhite Gold. Targeting fine lines, wrinkles, sagging, elasticity loss and other dismal signs of aging and indifference against our skin, Snailwhite Gold is ultra potent, keeping skin firm with 24K Gold Extract and boosting collagen production with Snail Potion and Red Seaweed Microalga. That’s right: no need to fret over those late night Netflix binge sessions just yet!
Bloom and glow
“Brightening” is not the same as “whitening.” Innisfree’s latest release does just that. The Jeju Cherry Blossom line effectively brightens skin, which makes complexion (almost) glass-like and dewy. With Natural Betaine, it creates a barrier to prevent dehydration, keeping the skin plump and moist.
The collection includes the Jeju Cherry Blossom Tone-up Cream, Jeju Cherry Blossom Skin, Jeju Cherry Blossom Lotion and Jeju Cherry Blossom Jelly Cream for a naturally glowing complexion. It makes skin as vibrant as cherry blossoms in spring! Purchase the limited edition King Cherry Blossom Must-Have Set, which contains all products, available in stores this September.
Which of this month’s spotlighted products are you excited to try? Let us know which earns a spot on your beauty counter!
